  • VST Expression Maps for Dimension Strings

We have made a new set of VST Expression Maps for our Dimension Strings collection. They can be used with Cubase 5 or higher. Registered users can download them at the following location:

  • hallo andi i have tested the new expression maps for ds. so i think, that these maps couldn't work. "open strings" just to "sul e" have to be on groupe 1. so you have to copy all the articulation 6 x to have access to all articulation pro string. then you have put a marcato ariculation, but you have only in the preset a "trill marcato". if you put marcato on the same group as the trill so the system can not check wich thrill.... or i am wrong?? thank you for your answer.. grey

  • Hello Grey!

The marcato switch is for the marcato trill articulation.
If you include one of the sul switches, the matrix will be changed. There's no need to have all articulations listed 6 times.

Just give it a try. [;)]

  • yes.. it works... sorry.. thank you.. grey

  • Hi,

I don't really use Expression Maps for scoring notation but for controlling VSTi. I would like to have all my articulations in say Group 1 but then be able to choose between strings as attributes or directions in say Group 2 (I use a similar method for CS2 switching between low and high position) but this doesn't seem to work. Is this sort of functionality not possible - i.e. I would need to create 6 x articulations to be able to switch string assignments 'on the fly'?

  • Hello David!

With our Dimension Strings Expression Maps it is already possible to switch between all articulations AND strings. If you want to have the string changes in a different group as the articulations, you will have to create a sound slot for every possible combination of articulation and string. This would make the list of sound slots almost 6 times as long as it is now without having additional benefits.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Thanks Andi,

On the expression maps you have released you have the string assignments listed as if they were articulations (i.e. in Group 1 as Directions). If say I were using Legato Vib as an articulation having started using the 'Regular' matrix and then switched to Sul G - would the result be Legato Vib Sul G? If so, then I could probably live with having to reselect Regular before changing articulation. If the only option is 240 articulations in a map - then, I would agree, it's unworkable and it would make more sense to switch between string assignments the 'old skool' way using midi notes (I assume that would work?)

For future development, it would be very useful if the matrix selection keyswitches responded to Group 2/3/4 attribute assignments [{]

You only have to reselect Regular, if you want to switch to Regular. Of course it's also possible to change articulations when you have changed to the Sul G matrix.

By the way. VST Expression was developed by Steinberg and not by us. So future development wishes should be directed at them. [;)]

  • Cheers Andi, I think I can live with that solution [;)]

I merely suggested a development opportunity as Steinberg's product clearly outputs the data, as demonstrated by my ability to use it with Kontakt and CS2. I naturally assumed there might be an opportunity to adapt VI Pro and Dimension Strings so it does too [:P]
