    Hi,

    I'm interested in knowing if Dimension Strings (once all sections are released), be used to emulate a chamber string orchestra ?  

    How would it differ from Chamber Strings ?  i.e. Since I don't own Chamber Strings, I was wondering if I can emulate a chamber size string orchestra using only Dimension Strings (i.e. 2 violins, 2 violas, 1 cello, 1 bass)  ?  or is there something special that Chamber Strings offer that Dimension Strings don't ?

    Any feedback on this would be appreciated. 

    Looking forward to the release of the rest of Dim-Strings.

    The Chamber Strings sections were all recorded as a whole, same with the Dimension Strings: Violins, Violas, Cello, Basses.  The main difference is that with Dimension Strings, you have access to each individual player within the section.  And divisi is possible within Dimension Strings.  

    If you want just one cello and one bass, I would recommend the Solo Strings library.  You can create your ensemble written using the Solo Strings library and some pitch shift tricks for 2 violins and 2 violas.

    From my experience with the DS Violins only, it's better to use a minimum of two player. Solo player does not sound so bad but the Solo Strings library better suited for that purpose.

    The DS library is not exactly individual players, it as been recorded as sections wich each member have been isolated. So each instruments are mono. Two violins in unison or in harmony does sound good. 

    This kind of chamber Orchestra should sound ok with DS : 4VL1, 4VL2, 3VA, 2VC, 1CB?. 

    But since DS Strings is my only ''solo'' strings library, I may use it for solo writing as well. 

    We'll see all that when the full library will be out.

    Thanks for the feedback. 

    I guess we will be able to evaluate how good Dim-Strings can emulate a chamber string section character once the entire Dim-Stings is released.

    Given the amount of flexibility that Dim-Strings offer, I feel they will be able to do a very good emulation of a Chamber Strings Section.

    Having used Dimension Violins in some of the demos here, I have to answer that they are ideal for a chamber sound because you can hear (and adjust) each separate player.  But - very importantly - they are ideal for blending with the other ensembles for an added EXTREME complexity to larger groups.  In fact, the most extreme, complex string sound I've ever heard from samples.  Because each player is separate, yet integrated into the ensemble.

    When the other instruments are available, it will be important to pay attention to how many players you want to have, based on typical chamber orchestras.  Many of them will have only one or two basses, or fewer violas or cellos, etc.  So in that case, you could substitute a Solo string for the part, which blend perfectly.

    I am really enthusiastic about the Dimension Strings because they are a great blend of both solo and ensemble sound, but also mix with the other VSL string sections perfectly.  Even Appassionata, the huge ensemble, which is enhanced by the espressivo of the Dimension violins.

    That's very helpful feedback.   I Appreciate it. 

    I agree, Dim-Strings is one of the most flexible, and customizable string libraries currently offered on the Sample-Library market.  Looking forward to the release of the remaining sections of Dim-Strings. (hopefully soon !) . I will wait until they are released, and see how that goes, before ventruing into buying Chamber Strings.
