  • Vienna Suite and Mountain Lion

The UI lag in Logic Pro (9.1.7) under Mountain Lion on a MAC was much discussed the last weeks and months ...

Today Apple releases an update (9.1.8) which promises improvement to the UI 'delay' ..

So, after a few testing the most Plugs are working as expected. But not so the Vienna Suite ...

After launching the UI it spends a long time, before i can change somewhat in there .. the UI seems to be 'freezed', and i cannot

close the window too. After a while, sometimes 20-30 sec., i can work with it.

I remember we had a similar issue long time ago, am i right?

Is it actual an OS bug or a vienna issue?

Edit: I'm on a MBP (2011), 10.8.2, Logic 9.1.8 ... all latest updates and drivers

  • I Have the same problem with the Gui

  • Have the same problem here, I have talked about this problem with the technical support weeks ago, but they could not imagine what is the real problem than Logic itself, they made an update, but until today nothing has really changed.

Apple is releasing the 10.8.3 Beta, after I have installed it, I will report if something has changed with Logic's GUI Lag.

At the end of this year I will leave Logic because Apple has left the Pro Content in its philosophy, so I will change to Pro Tools. I have tested it natively and there is no problem at all. Apple is so .... forget it!

Years ago there was a reason to leave Cubase: LOGIC PRO. Now there is a reason to leave LOGIC: APPLE!

I cannot reproduce your findings here, using the latest Mountain Lion and Logic updates, together with latest Vienna Suite. Plugin interfaces pop quickly and are active straight away.

Is there something specific I need to do in order to reproduce this issue?

    Thanks,

  • as far as i understood the discussions in the apple forum, the issue don't come up on all kind of apple machines.

and it seems not to be reproducable ...

but i found a workaround last weekend ...

i uninstalled all iMovie, iPhoto and Garageband shit, because it seemed to be helpfull for some of the guys ... without any improvement to my machine (MBP 2011, all latest software under 10.8.2).

but than i needed some garageband samples for an older live session with mainstage. So i re-installed garageband from the app store (the former, killed version, was a bundled iLife stuff from my latest 10.6 DVD) ..

after that, all problems are gone!

  • Following procedure:

    New logic file

    1 Audio Track

Use 4 - 5 Equalizer, all with active Analyzer function

    On the bounce track:

2 Master EQ with active Analyzer

    1 Analyzer

    Press Play

open all used plugins and try to change settings all the time.

My system needs apx. 2 minutes, then my mouseclicks and Keyclicks get responsed with a delay.

Apple has improved this situation with updating to Logic 9.1.8, but it is not solved.

I think it is not a Vienna Suite problem, but when you can reproduce the lag, you can do some improvements if necessary.

Anyway, I will leave Logic at the end of this year and switch to Pro Tools. I have tested your AAX native plugins and everything works fine all the time, so I think it is better to invest in developments for Vienna Suite in AAX DSP Format. That is actually the future for many many Studios and also for my works.

As I just wrote in the other thread, it appears to be an Apple bug, which only occurs under heavy loads. It also happens to other 3rd party plugins. Thus, there is not much we can do to help deal with the situation. Installing Snow Leopard seems to have fixed the situation for most people.
