  • Dimension Strings Legato

First off, really liking this library so far. The DS Legato tone is really great, very warm and full. Just what I heard in the video demo, and now in my studio. Beautiful work here VSL. I'm wondering if I can dial in a little more glide between notes (as I can in LASS) without having to engage the port presets (which can be a little too much port for the most part for me). That was my biggest concern with the old VSL strings, not enough real-time control over legato transition time. Hope there's a new way to do it here with these strings.

  • Gary, you might want to poke around the Stretch tab in Advanced View. You can isolate the beginning of each legato sound and elongate it. I haven't tried this yet, but you could alter the beginning of each legato desk by different lengths to get an even smoother, more realistic sound as eight players perform with micro-second differences.

There is no dedicated knob or slider that does what you describe. And the above method could only be considered "real time" if you created sets of variations and CC'd them. That gets pretty deep in the weeds.

Yes, there is a valley between legato and portamento. One can rarely substitute for the other without sample manipulation.

  • Thanks, plowman. I edited this post because I see that it's possble to do this and there are already Matrix presets that do this, at least in VSL's older strings. Hopefully they're here too.
