  • VEP5 - Intermittent Audio Problem (Solved)

    Hi

I am getting intermittent audio from my PC slaves. I play a note and it will drop out for a fraction of a second randomly. I get this same thing across all 4 PC slaves, whether I am using DP or Logic on the Mac and with both VEP 10309 and 11262. I have tried different instruments  - same thing. The task manager shows CPU and network activity at almost nothing likewise memory so it doesn't seem to be a performance issue.

I think this might have started when our office router died and was replaced. Immediately afterwards all the PC's set up a new network. I have tried disconnecting my studio from the internet and the router but the same problem.  I am seriously running out of ideas and time here! Any thoughts on what I can try next?

    Many thanks in advance

    Mac Pro OS 10.6.8 /  2.8ghz 8 core / 8gb RAM

    DP 7.2.4 / Logic 9

VEP  V5.1.10309 and 11262 (tried both)

  • So it turns out it was faulty hardware. Either the gigabit switcher or a cable -proably the switcher. I changed the lot and the problem has gone. In essence what probably happened was that whatever the fault was slowed down the network to the point where VEP couldn't stream audio properly but still was "up" so still showed normal network connections etc. So if in years to come you stumble across this thread in search of an answer check the hardware and ask yourself if there;s anything that is slowing down your network.  Good luck!
