  • VSL Choir Section Ranges?

At some point, I am hoping to get better choir samples (currently using the choir in Kontakt 4).

For the VSL choir, no information appears to be published giving the recorded ranges for each section: sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses.  What are they?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi noldar12,

    Soprano: Bb3 - C6

    Alto:E3 - F#5

    Tenor: B2 - C5

    Bass: C2 - E4

    Best,

    Brian

  • You should be able to find the Manual under your User Area

    Sopranos A3-C6 (staccato patches B3-C6)

    Alto; E3-F#5

    Tenor: B2-C5

    Bass: C2-E4

    Best regards

    Gabriel

[Edit]Ok, my coffee break made me taking too long ...

  • Thanks for the responses.

  • Altos up to an F#5? WOW. And the tenors are pretty high too! Well I didn't realize that. The first sopranos could probably go higher but so few scores call for it that it's really not needed. One question though--I'm guessing it's a typo that the tenors are going a half step lower than the basses? Should that be C3? Thanks for posting, that's very useful.

I think you have your octaves wrong. Middle C is C4. In any case, the Tenors don't go lower than the Basses; B2 is a major 7th above C2. [;)]

  • The reason I asked about ranges, was to find out if the sections were true full range or not - as what I am currently using absolutely is not.  It is great to find out that each section is truly full range.

I have memories of singing (or more honestly trying to sing) the Brahms Requiem in college as a very mediocre 2nd tenor... (the high Bb's were a challenge) but that is another story.

  • Whoops you're correct. Sorry I am more knowledgeable about a different method of dictating notes--"Sub-contra", "contra", "great", "small", etc.
