  • Is my Macbook capable of handling the orchestral strings bundle?

Hi there, would like to purchase Orchestral Strings Bundle, but am unsure whether my macbook can take it, how much of a strain it'll be etc. It's the only computer I work on... I'm a little weak on computers, but it says that my processor is 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, memory is 4GB 133 MHz DDR3... Sorry if it's a bit of an elementary question, but would obviously like to know from users if it's a good idea... Many thanks!

  • Hi Sterfor,

think of it like towing a boat, the more horse power more torque , less people in the suv and  less elevation will make life easy pulling the boat,

As for Sample libraries in general, the horse power and torque come from the processor, less elevation is fast hard drive and more ram

also remember you will need to run FX reverbs, eqs etc.... thats more people in the suv pulling the boat , heavier

I think the I7 is qaud core ? you can install an ssd drive in the dvd bay

If you increase you RAM to Max, and fast hard drive you should be good to open alot of articulation from the orchestral strings for most of what you will need.

  • Yeah Macbook Pro's were available  in dual and later quad core i7's.

Your 2.2ghz machine is a quad core.

4 gigs of Ram is a bit anemic considering this machine maxes out at 16 gigs.

You have a ThunderBolt Port so you have very fast external hard drive options.

Sooooo..... Max the Ram and get an external ThunderBolt drive. Or Max the Ram and try Mazekas second internal drive.

Either way you should be good to go.

If you upgrade nothing, your Mac will probably struggle...  [:(]
