  • Some prospective newbie questions

    Hi all

... and thanks in advance for any replies, advice, patience, opinions.... For reference, I'm using Logic Pro on 10.3.3 and Logic 5.5.1 on win2k.

    1) Is there a limit to the number of my own computers I can legally put Opus 1 on? Seems like it is very demanding, and probably can't run to full potential on a single machine, but also I'd like to put a copy on my powerbook for on the road stuff.

    2) Is anyone running Opus 1 on a powerbook yet (mine is a 1.5ghz)... how many progs can you get running at a time? (I know its a "piece of string" question, and I need to have at least 1gig RAM... ballpark approximations are fine [:)]

    3) What form of copy protection is involved? Not Pace I hope.....

    4) Is the full set the only upgrade path for Opus 1 users?

    5) Any recommendations where to get a good deal? [:)]

    Thanks
    Chris

  • I can answer #3 and #5.

3.) There is no copy protection in Opus 1. You simply extract the .rar archives to your HD.

5.) I bought Opus 1 from www.mtlc.net for a good price. They carry all of VSL's products, and have the best prices that I could find. They also have a very helpful staff that enjoys this stuff as we do!

  • welcome chris,
just aa an opening note: you can play only single note instruments on logic for PC, since there is no performance tool for this combination (support for windows has been cancelled by emagic/apple)
    1) you can have your vienna symphonc libraries installed on as many computers you might find usefull
    2) depends on your type of performances and workflow (eg. using the freeze option) - 1 GB upwards will be helpfull
    3) a code for your XSkey is needed to use the VSL performance tool
    4) currently there is only an upgrade path from opus 1 to the complete package of the pro edition (content for opus 1 completely taken from the pro)

  • Thanks for the replies Mike and christian.

I'm just wondering... if the performance tool requires an XS Key authorisation, what happens if I want to use it on two separate machines at the same time: I'm thinking of getting a second XS key sometime - partly for security, and partly to use on a G5 when I eventually raise the cash... but of course it would be nice to use all the computing resources at my disposal to run maximum possible Opus 1 voices. Thanks in advance.

    Cheers

  • you can get authorization codes from emagic for every XSkey which is registered to you - of course you also need to have a VSL library registered.
