I would like to tap into the expertise here. I presently use an older iMac to run Logic as my DAW, and use a Mac Mini to house the VSL samples. Using VE Pro and the screen sharing feature of Mac OS X 10.6, I am able to control both computers; sound emerges from the iMac.
I am considering purchasing an ADDITIONAL 4 core mini and moving Logic and all associated software (including VE Pro) to the new machine, and controlling BOTH mini machines through screen sharing (or possibly another Apple application called Apple Remote Control). This would increase computational power on the new mini, as well as increase RAM memory, which can go up to 16 GB with third party memory. It looks as though it is fairly easy to transfer Logic and the VSL applications to the new machine (provided the associated dongle is transferred as well), but I am stumped as to how to transmit the SOUND from the new machine now housing Logic. It seems the only solution is to connect my speakers to the new Mac Mini, as I cannot transmit sound to the iMac without purchasing some type of external audio interface that would run between the the iMac and the new Mac mini. Plan B would be to purchase a new display along with the new mini and sell the iMac.
Any thoughts?
