  • Hi David!

I recommend using the Special Edition sound set for this device and reserving one program/channel for the piano and two for the organ. To change the registration of the organ, please use keyswitches and MIDI CC commands. Here are two examples.
    ~N26,10 (sends keyswitch D1 with velocity 10)
    ~C1,127 (sends CC1 with value 127)

    I hope this helps.

    Andi

  • Still no sound.

I've changed the sound set to special edition. I've loaded the bosendorfer from the Special Edition pre set files but there is no Organ in the Special Edition pre set files so I have loaded the organ manuals and organ pedals pre set from the main collection. The pedals play OK but still the manuals are silent. i can see midi going out of sibelius and I can see the keyboard in the VI player reacting but no sound?

    I'm flumuxed.

  • Hi David!

There's no need to use the Special Edition presets or matrices. For the piano you can use your Bosendorfer Imperial and for the Organ you can use the Konzerthaus Organ presets. Just take care to use the according programs of the VE Special Edition sound set on the Sibelius Manual Sound Sets page. It is also important to use the right Sibelius instruments in your score (Piano, Organ [Manuals], Organ [Pedals]).

Can you hear a sound when you press the keys on the virtual keyboard with your mouse?

    Andi

  • For the piano I am using the SE31 preset keyboards and that works fine.

For the Organ I am using KH-Organ Manuals and Pedals VSL preset.

In the sibelius Manual Sound Set page for this device  the sound set is VE Special Edition. I do not understand what you mean by use the according programs of the VE special edition sound set.

Should the "Use Manual Sound Set" box be checked or not? And if it should be checked there is only "organ" sound ID there is not "organ manual" or "organ pedal".

It's a shame i can't attach screen shots for you to see.

    Still can't hear the manuals.

  • Hi David!

Yes, the "Use Manual Sound Set" box should be checked and the "Organ" program has to be applied to two channels if you are using manuals and pedals. In my last post when I mentioned "Organ [Manuals]" and "Organ [Pedals]" I was talking about the Sibelius instruments (the one you choose from the menu you get after pressing the "i" key).

  • The "Use Manual Sound Set" box is checked.

The Sound ID is set to keyboard.organ for the manuals and the pedals.

The sibelius mixer has assigned device 7 channel 4 to the manuals and device 7 channel 5 to the pedals.

The "Organ Manual" VI is set to device 7 channel 4  and device 7 channel 5 for the "Organ Pedals"

The "Organ Manuals" VI has the Pre set KH-Organ Manuals VSL Preset.

The "Organ Pedals" VI has the pre set KH-Organ Pedals VSL Preset.

In both VIs I can see midi going out of sibelius and I can see midi coming into the VI. In both VIs I can see the VI keyboard being played.

I can hear the organ pedals.

But now, just to add to the ever increasing weirdness of this project, when sibelius plays the organ manuals I hear the piano.

  • Hello David!

    This really sounds weird.
Could it be that you have set the piano to the same channel as the organ manuals or to Omni in VE?
What do you hear when you play on the virtual keyboard of the VI that is supposed to play the organ manuals?

No the piano is not set to the same channel as the organ and neither the piano or the organ is set to Omni in VE.

I have three piano VIs and three seperate pianos in sibelius all set to the right devices and channels.

Ihave taken several screenshots which you can see here, here, here, here, here, here and here.

The last one shows the sibelius playing the organ manuals, the sibelius mixer showing midi going from channel 4 and the VSL mixer showing midi coming into channel 1 the piano.

  • Hi Dave,

thanks for the screenshots. I think they helped me to track down your problem with the Organ manual VI. You've activated Velocity Xfade there. The Organ does not support Vel Xfade. (It's described in the Organ manual on page 4 in the chapter "Technical Details"

  • Hi Herb,

It's not that, it doesn't work when VXFade is switched off either. The set up is exactly the same as for the organ pedals which do sound.

It's now all looking academic because as of last night the whole project is now crashing sibelius every time I try to open it. It looks like  the technology and I are still not quite ready to manage a project of this size in this way. I've been waiting ten years to be able to do this I can wait a while longer. Still it's very frustrating because we came very close this time. I think I need to take a break from it for a while.

  • Hello David!

I'm sorry to read about your problems. Maybe reinstalling the latest versions of Sibelius and VE Pro will solve the crashes. The latest version of VE Pro can be downloaded here:
    http://www.vsl.co.at/en/68/428/2022/1709.htm

If this doesn't help, can you please describe in more detail what happens when you try to load your project.

Concerning the organ problem, I have seen that you don't use the programs I have suggested for the organ and the piano on the Manual Sound Sets page. Please apply the program "Piano" to channels 1 to 3 and the program "Organ to channels 4 and 5. Furthermore it seems that you have fiddled about with the output devices and Sound IDs in the Sibelius mixer. This may be another reason for the problem. After you have corrected your Playback configuration, I recommend resetting the output devices of all instruments that are supposed to trigger VE Pro Event Input (6) to (Auto) in the Sibelius mixer.

  • I've decided to bite the bullet and start over from scratch with a new configuration. I suspect many of the issues were because I had not set things up exactly right the first time although everything was working fine for a long time.

So clean slate and I'll see how things go.

I am very grateful for your patience and help Andi you and the rest of the VSL team really are the best support team I've ever experienced.

  • Thanks for the kind words and good luck. [:)]
