  • Advice-Stereo or Mono VI's, and Reverb?

    Hello,

I'm working on an orchestral piece using DP 7.24, Kontakt 5,
and Vienna Instruments. I thought I would try using mono instances of Kontakt
and Vienna Instruments to achieve greater clarity in my mixes.
Let's say I want the horns to appear in the 11:00-12:00 position
in the overall mix.For the horn section( FH, Trombone, Trumpets) I have
all instruments panned in the 11:00-12:00 position. Should I used one
dedicated stereo reverb for the horns, and a different reverb
for  woodwinds, strings etc.,or should I use one reverb for the
    entire mix?

    Thanks,

    Tom

  • Hi Tom

I suggest to create different depths (each within a bus) with two or more reverb instances (stereo).

After that you route the instrument section trough the corresponding depth.

When you've done this job you can pan - together with the depth - the instruments to their places on the virtual stage

    To get an idea: http://www.beat-kaufmann.com/suite-presets/vienna-ensemble-presets/index.php

You also will be able to download a pdf with some background information "how to mix instruments" and "about creating several depths".

Even if these pages and presets are made for VE you will be able to do this within your DAW (Logic) as well.

    A lot of success

PS: Sorry for leading you to a "buying site". But  maybe you are able to take out some ideas for free ;-)
