  • Velocity Layers - is there a way to set the cross over points?

    Hello,

In VI pro player I can easily see how many Velocity Layers are available in a patch (i.e. VI-6_Staccato_Long has 4 velocity Layers). These can be either played by Controller Via Velocity X-Fade, or by velocity on the keyboard when this is turned off. This is all awesome! However, I would like to actually see, and maybe change, how these velocities are triggered and at what keyboard velocity. Is this possible? I know I can change the velocity curve of a cell, but I feel like I'm doing this blind as I have no idea where the different velocity layers are triggered.

On a side note, the VI-6_Staccato_short patch does not show any velocity layers at all. I think this is a bug, as I for sure hear multiple velocities.

Thanks in advance for the help and reply!

  • Hi,

I think the velocity layers information you are looking for is in the patch/matrix preset documentation:

    eg. 4 velocity layers: 0–55 p; 56–88 mp; 89–108 mf; 109–127 f

Although this is just an example this details is there for each articluation included (I think).

    Regards,

  •  Have you tried changing the velocity curve in the VIP player?

  • I think between the velocity curve editor and the crossovers as indicated in the manual I'll manage. I just find it difficult to do this without seeing the actual crossover setting of the samples. This is one of the few processes I actually prefer in Kontakt, as I can actually SEE where the velocitys change in an instrument, see how hard I'm hitting the keys, and adjust as necessary. This is much easier then having to bust out the manual for each VI instrument anytime I want to know this information. :)

  •  I'm not in the studio now, so can't check, but can't you see the velocity information as you play in the top left of the VIP player?
