    Whenever I open VE Pro my sequencing program (Sonar) says that my audio interface is in use by another program "VE Pro".  I want to use MIR because the reverb effects are amazing, but VE just seems like a waste of time and it seems to not work with Sonar.  Also, I have read through the VE manual and if you are not using it for networking with another computer it doesn't really do anything your DAW software can't already do.  I have watched the videos and read the manual and they tell you how wonderful VE Pro is but not really how to use it.  ALso, I was told VE Pro  and MIR would work with third party software but I cannot get anything to load except VI instruments.  I have tons of all smaple files that were written as .gig files and now I use G-Player to play them, but I can't seem to find a way to open it in VE Pro.

    I have written about some of these difficulties before but what I really need is a manual that explains how it works, not what it does!  Is anyone out there using VE Pro/MIR Pro and Sonar that would be willing to help me out?

    Sorry to be complaining again VI Staff, but the manuals for VE and MIR just aren't detailed enough for new users.

    The interface between VE and Sonar is what is confusing me.  DO I need to insert a new instance of VE and MIR into every track I use in Sonar?

    1. You load an instance of VE Pro in Sonar and will then be asked which server (if you have both open) you want to connect to.
    2. There is no point in wishing for MIR Pro without VE Pro. It isn't going to happen. So you need to figure out how to introduce it into your workflow.
    3. So once you have connected as I explained in point 1. you will be able to use your Vienna Instruments in VE Pro and any 3rd party sample players as well. One thing to note; I notice that you said you use G-player. Make sure you only try to load the 32bit version in the 32bit VE Pro server. Or the 64bit (if there is one) in the 64bit server.
    4. So far so good. Once you have loaded your sample player in VE Pro you will either have created an icon for its output in MIR already (depending on the preferences you have set up), or will need to put MIR Pro as an insert on the sample players output channel in VE Pro.
    5. Then all you have to so is connect to it the same way as you would with any other VSTi. I can't help you there, because I don't use Sonar.

    DG - thank you.  It still doesn't make total sense to me and I have tons  of other questions.  That's why I really wish I could find a Sonar user who also uses VE and MIR.  I need to talk to someone who went through what I am going through and has enough patience to help me understand this.  Right now I am just frustrated and bummed out!  [*-)]

    DG,  DO I have to open VE before opening Sonar?  When I try to add an instance after opening Sonar first, the server interface shows no instances oif VE.  ALso, does the instance get loaded into a track?  WHen I do that it shows up as any other VST plugin wqould but doesn't get me to the interface (for instance the way the Vienna Instrument interfacedoes).   WHen I do an insert from the Insert toolbar in Sonar it opens a completely different window called "Insert Soft Synth Options."  Then it opens a window labelled "name of sonar file.cwp - Synth Rack, " as well as the server interface which still shows no instances active.

    However, I never get to the interface which is featured in all the videos, such as "Vienna Ensemble PRO 5 Overview" at around :15 secs

    At what point can I add MIR and, again, do I need to have an instance of VE and MIR for each track I use in Sonar?  I do not see MIR as a plugin so it must have to be opened in VE, but like I said, I never get the full VE interface so I don't know how.  I have been able to open MIR when I experimented with VE Pro standalone however.

     I can't answer your Sonar specific questions, but if you see no instance when you try to substantiate one, it probably means that you don't have "Advertise on Local Network" checked in the VE Pro Preferences . I thin it's on the General tab in the Server window.

    No. Even as local host it provides another process to host the plugins than in your case Sonar. That is not trivial. I don't know if Sonar can run as x86 under x64 kernel but one application of this difference is that VEP will run servers at both, obviating a bridge in the DAW host. And for many people this is going to mean more efficient handling/better performance particularly with soft instruments.

    Additionally, VEP 5 allows us to set 'threads' or cores per each VEP project which is probably not doable in Sonar. For some this is huge.

     It means that you can load a template of many GB and not have to re-load every time you change project.
