  • [SOLVED] Help with crashed project

I have 2 PCs running  VEP5 and Digital Performer on a Mac.

Near the end of a big Project one of the PCs just spins when saving in DP.

Now I'm in a huge mess. All the DP projects have been saved and I have a deadline. The PC will save vframes on its own. I can't think of any way out of this. To re-open all the cues and work again.

It is difficult to type here from an iPhone

  •  When you save a song on the master, all the data is saved on the master computer, the slaves shouldn't be saving anything, so assuming the Mac is the master with DP on and the PC's are VEP slaves,  what do you mean by the PC's just spins when saving? As I wouldn't expect them to be needing to save anything.

  •  Are you running coupled? If so, try de-coupled, if you already have the Metaframes saved.

  • I didn't have any time to do any diagnostics, but I DID get it going again.

The biggest problem was a corrupt vframe on one of the PCs.

I fixed that by creating a new vframe and merging it with what I had saved.

I got lucky, I could have merged corrupt data and the only way to fix that would be to build it from scratch. That would take hours, as it was very big and complex with a lot of bus routing.

After that I was able to save in DP. Then I had to fix every cue in the movie. If I opened another cue, it would have re-opened the corrupt vframe. I would unplug the ethernet cables, open the cue connect to the fixed intances then save. I repeated the process for every cue in the film all 5 reels.

Pull the ethernet cables, Load cue, connect to fixed instances, save and repeat.

It didn't seem to matter what state the server plug in was connected, disconnected, coupled, uncoupled. Maybe this was because there were multiple event plug ins in DP as well as the server connections. No matter what the state, if you saved in DP, It would save both PCs. I didn't have any time to try this or that as it takes 10 minutes to load each PC and they are the fastest PCs there are: I-7 with Sata3 6GBs hard drives.

After all the cues are printed as audio files and sent to the dubbing stage, I will be able to get back in and test things. I know this: both Logic and DP use the Audio Units version of the VEP plug in, they behave very different. DP allows as many audio outs as you have set in your prefrences. Logic is limited to 32 per vframe. We use MIR so it is ideal to have a single vframe.

I use Logic at my studio so I can do a lot of trial and error testing there, but many of the people I work with use DP and can help me sort out some lingering problems I have with DP and VEP.

I finally got to bed last night around 3AM
