This is indeed a limitation in Logic unfortunately.

You do not need 16 tracks send back to Logic as MIR is the final stage, so you need either a stereo, a 5.1 or a 7.1 return to Logic

I see your point Cyril, but I need as many audio outs as possible to be able to print stems.
Print stems ?
What is the relation between Stems and Audio tracks ?

So you dont need MIR !
May be I am wrong but I see it like this :
Either you use MIR to spacialize your music and you give the 2 or 6 or 8 tracks to the dubbing
Or you give all your tracks to be mixed and spacialized with the dubbing

Uh .... excusez-moi, Monsieur??
Why do you think you ain't allowed work in stems with MIR Pro?
Wondering,
i did say :
> May be I am wrong but I see it like this :
Once you have the 2 to 8 tracks of the music out of MIR (stereo, 5.1 or 7.1)
You add the 2 to 8 tracks of voices and the 2 to 8 tracks of the sound effects
Then you mix it all !
For me it seems to be a non sence of having 40 or 90 track with MIR and to mix it all again, you are going to destroy all MIR's work !!!
Again I say : may be I am wrong !!!!!

Cyril, unfortunately your way may be a good way to work, but it doesn't cut it in most situations composers find themselves in these days. When the stems go to the dub, the mix should sound the same as if all were printed at the same time directly out of MIR. However, you can't do this, because it means that nothing can be changed if the film is re-cut, for example. These days we are expected to give the music editor options, and not providing stems is not an option for most people.
Having said that, I wouldn't provide more than 6 or 7 stems, but if each of these was a 5.1 configuration, that would saturate Logic's ability to cope really quickly.
However, as we don't have to worry about mic bleed or anything using MIR, it should not be a problem to create stems. All you have to watch for is that there is no processing on your Master buss in your project. All processing has to be done on the stem busses before printing.

If the film has to be re-cut, doing it at the audio level, can only work if you are cutting on a silence !
It is better to do it at the Midi level

If you get the chance. In the professional arena this doesn't happen very often.
