I am trying to group a few instruments, so that they can be moved around the venue as a group, not one by one. For some reason I can't find the command to do this. I would have thought that it would be Selection Groups, but this seems to be another feature instead. Any help or point to the correct place in the manual?

Yes, it was removed. We had some heated internal discussions on this topic - me voting for the "old-school" Groups like we had them in legacy Vienna MIR, my "opponents" ;-) favouring the "more flexible" Selection Groups we have to deal with now. I got overruled, obviously. [^o)]
... I'm still trying to get the Groups back in a future update. (Maybe I should start a poll, hehehe).

Well, it just makes sense to me that if you have a group of instruments that need to be moved around, you can just grab hold of one of the icons and drag them. A really useful example is if you have 6 violins as audio inputs, you could group them, hide all but one of the icons and then you would still be able to move the "section" around easily.
FWIW I have no problem with selection groups. I just want the old ones back. Count me in favour for your poll. BTW thanks for spelling "favouring" correctly. [;)]

Whenever you want to recall a group click on any empty area in the mixer view (best below the faders) or empty area on the MIT stage and load your selection group.
Now you just have to hold "alt key" for any operations like volume adjustements or moving the whole group of instruments of the MIR stage view. Also hidden instruments within a selection group will be affected.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of selection groups. I just don't like the idea of the Alt thing.

Perhaps I'll add an option in a future update to reverse the behavior of the Alt modifier, so without Alt the controls would be linked for all selected channels and with Alt they'd be unlinked. A quicker way to switch between Selection Groups is also on the todo list, but there are some other more critical things currently that need to be taken care of.
I hope this is not too off topic but it is related to groups and moving them all together - is there any reason, other than instrument specific EQ or effects, NOT to use an ensemble that is essentially a group of individual instruments? Instead of loading for example, 5 different woodwinds each as a separate instrument in MIR, one would load a single, larger woodwind ensemble in MIR, and route all of those instruments already panned individually within Vienna Ensemble to it. I was not clear if that is the approach to do. I have been using only single instruments up till now, but was thinking of doing this ensemble approach to simplify setups, assuming it is not wrong from an audio/technical standpoint. I know that the larger instrument must be appropriate sounding for all of the inidividual ones within it.

Karel, that would be great. I'm used to using Alt to remove an instrument temporarily from a linked group in Nuendo, so I think that this is why it just feels odd to me that VEP works the way it does.

Have to say I'm strongly in favor of reversing the Alt functionality as well. As in Nuendo, Pro Tools also defaults to group behaviour and the ability to adjust single tracks by use of a modifier key, and to me it seems counterintuitive having to press a modifier key to get the behaviour i already told my tracks I wanted from them. It was actually one of the first things that struck me as odd when testing MIR Pro.
