    Almost every Vienna Instrument comes in a Standard Library and an Extended Library (which in the case of the Special Edition contains more Instruments). The Standard Library AND the Extended Library add up to a Full Library. All users have to register the Standard Library first to be able to order the Extended Library.

    Not a single sample that is contained in the Extended Library is already included in the Standard Library!

    The Special Edition PLUS (http://www.vsl.co.at/en/211/261/314/1606/1278.htm) is the ideal expansion to the Vienna Special Edition and offers new articulations for all string, brass and woodwind instruments included in the Special Edition Standard and Extended Libraries. All users of the Vienna Special Edition can now quickly and conveniently add articulations they might have been missing until now. The samples of the Special Edition PLUS are not included in the Vienna Special Edition, but have been specifically selected for this collection.

    For example, while the Solo Violin’s articulations in the Vienna Special Edition include staccato, détaché, sustained, sforzato, tremolo, pizzicato, legato, and portamento, the PLUS collection supplements these with the addition of the following articulations for the solo violin: Short détaché, fortepiano, snap-pizzicato, col legno, trills 1 & 2, Repetition Performances (legato & spiccato), fast repetitions (150, 170, 190 bpm), harmonics (staccato & sustain), and ponticello (staccato, sustain, tremolo).

    Please note that the Special Edition PLUS contains some Matrices that also include Patches from theVienna Special Edition. Therefore the installation of the Vienna Special Edition DVD Collection orDownload Collection is required to load these Matrices.

    I want to know also why it is relatively inexpensive package that you sell only packages of STRING in 400 or 500 dollars then how can it be I'm getting less said it all a bit of everything in a package of less said $ 500.? That's pretty high quality packages of string alone.? Or have fewer options ?

    I´m not sure if I understand your questions correctly, but let me try to answer with another attempt of an overview:

    For Strings, you have quite a few options. All DVD string products are shown here, with different section sizes, detailed descriptions and audio examples.

    Hundreds of thousands of samples.

    The biggest string ensemble, the Appassionata Strings I, are probably what you are looking for. Check out the sound with some demos our users have made.

    Appassionata Strings II offers muted strings - and the bundle of Appassionata Strings I&II will save you quite some money.

    You should check out the other sections, Orchestral Strings and Chamber Strings as well, to compare the sound.

    Our SPECIAL EDITIONS give you the main articulations of the included instruments and a great overview of the many options.

    If I understand your question correctly, purchasing the Special Edition Package will allow you to download the free versions of the Vienna Instruments and Vienna Ensemble software. Vienna Instruments will enable you to use the Special Edition Package as a stand-alone product or as a plug-in for a notation/sequencing program (not included with either piece of software), and Vienna Ensemble will enable you to use multiple instances of Vienna Instruments at once.

    Paul - I have Standard Special Edition but not Extended and need more mallet percussion. Is my only option to buy DVD version of Percussion Standard? If I need more mallet options is there a way to unlock any of the sounds in Percussion or do you have to purchase the entire package?
