  • Dimension Brass and Marcato

    Hello:

Whenever I specify any of the Dimension brass instruments to be marcato, either with a marcato sign (^) or with text "marcato", the instrument  switches to its muted equivalent.  That is, it acts as if I'd specified "con sordino" rather than "marcato".

Does anyone else have this problem?  Is there a solution, other than removing the marcato markings?

I use Sibelius 7.1 and Vienna Ensemble and Instruments, all current versions, running on Windows 7 64-bit, also with all updattes applied.  Thanks!

    John

  • Hello John!

The Dimension Brass collection doesn't include marcato or con sordino articulations. So if you add a marcato mark or text, the notes should simply be louder (with the mark) or stay as they are (with the text).

    Please check the following things:
    - Did you reserve the according "Dimension" programs on the Manual Sound Sets page?
    - Did you load the according VI or VI Pro presets for the Dimension Brass, that came with the "VE Woodwinds + Brass" sound set?

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi:

Thanks for your prompt reply.  Everything you mention has been done, but the sordino problem persists.

I created a TEST document that includes just a few notes which demonstrates the problem.  I hope it helps.

  • Hello John!

If you want me to take a look at your score and playback configuration, I will also need the data folder of your playback configuration.

  • Andi:

I thought I'd included all the bits, but I'll try again:  https://www.yousendit.com/download/M3BuZXR6b0J6RS9vS3NUQw.  This ZIP has the pieces in appropriately named folders.  If there's still something missing let me know.  Thanks!

    John

  • Hello John!

Sorry, but the data folder is missing again. You have sent me your Playback Configuration file "TEST.xml". In the same folder there should be a subfolder called "TEST data". I will also need this folder and the file(s) included there.

    Andi

  • Hello John!

Nevermind the data folder. I was able to open your project without it.
You are using the "VE Woodwinds + Brass" sound set. This sound sets only works correctly with the VI presets loaded, that came with the sound set. For the muted trumpet you seem to have loaded the Special Edition PLUS matrix. So this one can't work correctly. As you don't have the Brass I collection, which includes the muted trumpet and uses the same sound set, you will have to activate a second Vienna Ensemble Pro instances (or a Vienna Ensemble Pro Event Input) for the muted trumpet and use it with the Special Edition PLUS sound set.

    Then it should work correctly.

  • I am so sorry about the missing piece.  It's available at https://www.yousendit.com/download/M3BrdFdTd0lCTWtsYzhUQw (link valid for one week only).  I am sending it to you as I'm a little confused, and I hope this piece will enable you to clarify one item.  You mention that I've loaded Special Edition PLUS matrix, which I do not believe to be the case.  I have one device loaded, and one instance only, which uses the Vienna Ensemble Pro device.  I'm sorry to bother you with this again, and am very grateful for the assitance you've provided so far.

    Once again, best regards,
    John

  • A PS:  what is the difference between "VE Special Edition Plus" and "VSL Ensemble Special Edition Plus"?  With what should each be used?  Thank you again,
    John

  • Hello John!

Thanks for sending me the content of the data folder. However, this didn't change anything. I come to the same conclusion as in my last post. In channel 2 you have loaded the Special Edition PLUS matrix "13S Trumpet C mute +".

The sound set "VSL Ensemble Special Edition Plus" comes with Sibelius. The sound set "VE Special Edition PLUS" is a slightly updated version that comes from our homepage. I recommend using the "VE..." version.

    Best,
    Andi
