OK. I see. I have only seen the first one and thought this is a fantastic film on many levels. The music to this film is sensational in my view. Not necesarily in a technical, orchestraional way, but in a extremely effective 'sound' way. Don Davis is obviously extremely talented. Any other films he's scored, do you know?

It is only recently that he's hit the big time as a composer; he was previously better known as an orchestrator.

Are you sure about Don Davis being an orchestrator for James Horner? I'm quiet an obsessed film music collector, and I've never seen Don Davis' name mentioned in 'orchestrated by'-section on cd-booklets.
Could you check this out please? And tell us i.e. on which albums he did orchestrations for Horner? Because, quiet frankly, you make me very curious!

Besides, Don Davis is one of the composers who has remained for a very long time an underestimated treasure in Hollywood. And in Jurassic Park III he has an original approach to the John Williams-motives, and handles them with care, without losing his own style. Even stronger, he enriches the themes with his type of wonderful orchestration. I also love his Matrix-scores, especially 'cause he dared to cooperate with a techno-freak: Juno Reaktor, which results in pumping beats and synthesizers in conjunction with full orchestra and full choir! An extraordinary musical experience to me!!!

Mr Davis successfully used John Williams style and motifs to construct these cue - its quite good in my opinion.

Okay, so this particular cue is alright. But have you ever heard Don's full rendition of the main Jurassic Park theme? Blech! [:@]
It drags, has no spirit, and pretty much butchers John Williams' original composition. I couldn't listen through the first track.

Not true. There is a bemoaning of a certain prevalence of bad film music being found on major theatrical releases but we're all huge fans of film music. We can't help but point out this current trend in an art form that has fostered truly great artists and music throughout it's brief history. As has also been repeatedly cited, there is still very high quality original work being done in film these days. We're just a little aghast at how dreadful the bad stuff is.
