  • Lost configuration

When I save a configuration in Playback Devices in Sibelius, it is loaded automatically next time I open the same file.

I worked with a composition and changed the playback device from Vienna Ensemble to Vienna Ensemble Pro. I used a lot of time to set the instruments in MIR Pro, saving the configuration every once in a while.

Next time I opened the same file in Sibelius the configuration was not loaded. It seems as if its gone. This has happened a couple of times before.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there some way to get back the configuration?

  • Hello Pekay!

The Sibelius Playback Configuration has to be saved separately from the score. So after making changes to your Playback Configuration or Vienna Ensemble (Pro) settings, always save your Playback Configuration.

Maybe you saved the new Playback Configuration under a different name.

If you work on your score on more than one computer, you might also want to copy the Playback Configuration (xml file and data folder). Depending on your Sibelius version and operating system the Playback Configurations are located in one of the follwoing folders:

  • Andi,

Thank you very much for giving me the file location! Something had happened but I could save part of the work by restoring the configuration files from the Time Machine.

  • Now I have tested a little more.

When I deactivate a playback device the other devices lose their connection to the Vienna Ensemble Pro server. And then I lose all the settings in the configuration.

Is there some way around this?

What I'm trying to do is to change Ensemble to Ensemble Pro. First I activate the Ensemble Pro device. And when I'm ready with it I deactivate the old Ensemble device. But when I do this the new Ensemble Pro is disconnected and the settings are lost.

Hope you understand what I mean.

  • Hello Pekay!

    I recommend the following procedure:
    - Load your old Playback Configuration.
    - Save the Vienna Ensemble settings as VIFrame.
    - Create a new Playback Configuration.
    - Deactivate Vienna Ensemble.
    - If you haven't done so yet, start Vienna Ensemble Pro Server.
    - Activate Vienna Ensemble Pro and connect to the Server.
    - Make channel and program assignements on the Manual Sound Sets page.
    - Load the VIframe with VE Pro.
