  • Vienna Ensemble Pro as a second Server

Hello for the first time and merry christmas :D

I got the following problem. I hope, my english is good enought, that you understand my problem.
First my system: Windows 7 64 Bit, 8 GB RAM, Cubase 6 - 32Bit incl. USB eLizenser

I like to make orchestral music. I got Cubase including the HSO. Further i got Nexus 2 with the Hollywood Library and Vienna Ensemble Pro 4 (VSL Pro) (this includes the Epic Orchestra).

All this Libraries are driving my system to the limit.

With a 64Bit Windows OS, a 32 Bit application can address max. 4 GB RAM. For orchestral music this is a very low limit. With the VSL Pro I have the chance of outsourcing some of the libraries. But even 8 GB are not so much.

So i decided, to get a second computer with 8 GB RAM. VSL Pro has 3 Licenses. With Nexus 2, I got a second dongle for the VSL Pro License.

    Now my problem:

All my licenses are on the first computer dongle. How can I use the second computer, if I have no licenses on the second dongle? I don't want to pay all licenses twice. I was not able to transfer any license from the first dongle to the second dongle.

So, how can I use the second computer or the second license of my VSL Pro?

Many thanks for reading an answering

  • Can you explain what programs/sample libraries you want to use on which computer, and then I may be able to tell you the best way to do it.

  • Hi DG,

till now, I have three libraries:

    1. HSO - Halion Symphonic Orchestra (Steinberg) - needs Dongle

    2. Nexus 2 - Hollywood Expansion - needs Dongle

    3. Vienna Ensemble Pro - Epic Orchestra - needs also Dongle

The HSO comes with Cubase - so it seems to be on the first computer together with Cubase, but the Epic Orchestra and the Nexus - Hollywood Expannsion could be on the second computer.

But this is also a general question. At the moment I have these libraries, but in future I maybe want more quality libraries (LASS, VIENNA etc.). And depending on future computers, I might want to change libraries between different computers.

  •  Steinberg products and VSL products use the same kind of dongle, so you can move VSL back and forwards as you like. What sort of dongle does Nexus use?

LASS doesn't use a dongle, so you could theoretically install that on both computers.

  • Nexus uses the same dongle as Steinberg and VSL, so I think thats good.

For the moment LASS is to expensive for me, so I think about that later.

By the way, I found out, that when I plug both dongles to one computer and start the eLicenser Software, I can move licenses from one dongle to another. Unfortunately I only can move them but not copy. And if it is possible to drive two dongles on one computer (I didn't try this till now) it would be nearly perfect.

If I could copy the licenses, it definitely would be perfect. Are there any other choices for my problem?
