But why would that be better then just using 8 instances of VE Pro?

Hello,
I just got the VEP 5 and Mir bundle, and its working very well except for one mystery - the Event Input plugin..
I am working from Finale 2011, the regular Vienna Ensemble Pro plugin for the first bank works normally, but I am getting no sound when I try to assign additional Event Input channels - I've gone over all the settings and am at a loss how to proceed?

It must be some mismatch of ports and channels
This is what I thought, or that there was some other setting I had overlooked.. but as I continue to tinker with it I'm not so sure..
I started from the beginning - I selected the Event input plugin, assigned it, then selected the port, and for a brief time my woodwinds channels were working.. doing the same with a second instance to open a third port for my brass didn't work however.. then after a while my port 2 stopped working for no apparent reason..
I'm a tad perplexed... [^o)] For now I can workaround by just using two more instances of VEP.. but this isn't desireable as it takes away from the benefits of MIR...

I select the port before assinging, but not sure if that matters...
Are you doing your mather right in finale with the channel numbers?
I don't think the order of assigning and port selection matters either.. further tests got brass working, but stops woodwinds in their tracks.. I've narrowed down the problem at least - what is happening is that I can't have two Event Inputs working at the same time - the second one cancels out the first, disabling the second gets the first working again. The original Ensemble plugin (strings in this case) remains uneffected at all times.
My channel numbers all check ok... even if they were off, its hard to go wrong with the port numbers - why would adding a second port cause both to stop sounding? I'm sure the answer is something simple..
By the way, thanks for your input on the issue!

Hello jc5!
Just to go for sure. Did you select a unique MIDI port for all VEP Event Input instances (starting with 2)? Did you also set up these ports in the main instance of VEP?
Best regards,
Andi
Hello, and thank you for replying!
Yes, I did select a unique midi port for each instance, ports 2 and 3, and set the ports in VEP as well.
Where my experiments left off yesterday was that one instance would work as expected, but as soon as I activated the second one both would fall silent.

Hi jc5!
That's odd. If you want to, you can send me your Finale project and I will take a look at it.
Best,
Andi
Hello Andi,
Thank you for the offer - I tried getting it to work on my own a little more, but have had no luck. There are a few workarounds I can use, but would certainly prefer to be able to use the plugin as intended (as this is the best and most efficient way).
I have sent an email with the file.
Sincerely,
jc5
