  • apologees for starting a new thread.......thanks for the speedy response.

No other firewire devices are connected at the same time as the hard disk......I've also created a new user and quit any other programs running in the background. made sure airport and stuff like that are disconnected.....

I will have to check the hard disk "journaling status" at the studio tommorow.....

    cheers

  •  Ok,

The hard disk was journaled, so I actually reformatted a seperate fw400 hard disk into non-journaled and copied the samples over.

Still does the same thing from that drive. I've also tried connecting via USB and not FW400. Still the same.

I've tried using both the internal audio and my Motu 828 to no avail.

This is really bizarre, just can't think what might be causing this.......keep the suggestions coming......if any can think of owt else.

    Cheers

  • usually i would now suspect the MOTU, but you mention it happens also with internal audio .... are you disconnecting the MOTU when switching to internal audio and: we are talking about the 828 mkII firewire, not USB, yes?

you could try other drivers for the MOTU, but maybe you should consider a re-install of OS X on your macBook ...

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • I'm surprisingly having the same issue, having recently bought a Mac Pro I have been having the same spike problems.

I find that if I load a song, then play, it will spike everytime a new sample or instrument hits the mix.

However if replay from the start it will play fine and dandy, until again hitting a new section.

Generally my process has been a time consuming session of play through my tracks from the start each time to get rid of all the spikes as such.

Once I have done this everything runs pretty smoothly, however the long session atthe beginning can be excruciatingly frustrating!

    Any thought's?

Running Logic 8 with SE on Quad Core Mac Pro, 2GB RAM.

  • same problem here, did this issue solve? It's only with logic too... not having the same problems with ableton live for example. (logic 9, macbook pro 2ghz-something intel 4gb ram)

  • To be honest, I rarely have this problem anymore... I added more RAM (6GB in total) and things run so much smoother (as you would expect).

Maxing out the buffer in Logic helped when I had less RAM, though it would spike still, it was much less frequent.

I have also noticed since changing to Snow Leopard that things run smoother still.

  • oh okay, I will upgrade to snow leopard and see what happends. this cpu spike just comes out of nowhere too. it occuors even if vienna is the only thing loaded up... anyone else?

  • I have a MacBook Pro, 2.4 Ghz 4GB of RAM and a connected FireWire 800 HD with the samples.  I have the same memory spike problems.  I can't make them stop.  This also happens inside of Vienna Ensemble.

  • Oh- and I'm using Logic 9, but it also happened in 8.  OS X 10.5.8, MOTU 8pre.

  • Same thing here. Even with VI Pro 2.
