Cubase 6 on Mac OSX Lion and Macbook Pro OSX Lion - Can I run VST Instrument plugins or AU only...
-
Welcome qbaser,
You can insert VE PRO (Server Interface) as a VST plug-in in Cubase, but VE PRO itself will only load AU instruments.
I don´t think there are any plug-ins as VST on OS X that are not also available as AU plug-ins.
Best,
Paul

WOW thanks so much for the quick reply Paul, Im impressed with that! OK I ready to buy, excuse my knowledge gap...but saying I install VE Pro on my Macbook Pro (as the slave) and my Mac Desktop as the host, do I need to have VST instruments installed actually on the Macbook Pro? Thanks Al

Thanks Paul. I'm just so in the dark about this software and Audio Units. Can you please expand on this? Example, Ive not used AU before, Im purely a cubase user and have all my VST instruments installed on my desktop Mac. What do you mean I just need to install Audio Units on the slave machine? Dont I need to install the entire virtual intrument on the slave machine? e.g. Ivory and all its samples? Please can you be as detailed as possible as I cant find these answers on your manual or this forum. (sorry i know Im a dumbo!) Thanks for your time Al

Hi Al,
In simple words: Install all plug-ins you want on your slave machine just as you did on your master machine. If there is the option to choose formats, for VE PRO you only need AU on OS X. It doesnt hurt to install other formats as well.
If you need some content for your samples, e.g., Ivory, of course you need that sample content, too.
You can either install it from scratch (easiest) or copy the sample content over network and assign it in the player (fast, but different with every sample player). Check the plug-in manual for details or contact my colleagues at other sample developers, if something is not clear.
I´d simply go ahead and install all available plug-ins (make sure you are using the latest updates from various websites).
Hope that helps!
Best,
Paul

Hi Paul, I've received my VE Pro today. got it working now quite easily. However Ive been reading the forums and see a VE Pro 5 is imminent with an update cost?? Are you saying I will have to pay to upgrade? You never mentioned this imminent update when I was discussing buying VE Pro with you, if I had known I would obviously have waited just a few more days. Please can you clarify? Thanks Al

Hello Al,
Here is the thread that clarifies, just 2 threads above this one.
There will be a reasonable upgrade price to VE PRO 5 for all VE PRO 4 users that want to upgrade.
VE PRO 5 will have a higher price tag.
Best,
Paul
