    Apparently the problem is in my LAN connections, because when I send midi and audio the "traditional" way, it is all working splendidly! and with very low latency. (256) with nothing even breaking a sweat.

    but when I try to use the "midi/audio-over-LAN" I have to set my host card (RME HDSP) to 1024 and the buffer to "2"

    If I try to tighten up the settings, the sound breaks up or has drop-outs

    both computers: LAN 1000Mbs

    Master:PC-Win7(64)/SONAR X1 (64)/Hex-core sempron II 3.2GHz /8G RAM/ dedicated SATA II's (sound card:RME HDSP PCI)

    Slave: PC-Win XP//Athlon 64 2.9GHz Dual-Core/4G RAM/Dedicated SATA II's. (sound card:RME HDSP PCI).

    VE-PRO in slave says the CPU is running around 35%.

    Any ideas how to fix this?

     The LAN is not streaming audio well. Pops and Drops. I've been working on this since June 29th??

    I am feeling underwhelmed by all the support. [st]

    Have you actually contacted support?

    So, here are a few questions to start you off:

    1. Fixed IP on all computers?
    2. Only one Ethernet port active (any others disabled, including Wi-Fi)?
    3. Cat5 or higher cable being used?

    Support has suggested that perhaps my Realtek networking is the problem.

    I've ordered an  INTEL / PCI-E / CT Desktop Adapter, and am very hopeful that this will fix it.

     Yes, fixed IP on all machines.

    Have you done a DPC check? This could pinpoint exactly where the problem is, and if in fact it is the onboard network.

     yep,

    I ran DPC, and it was all green. no yellow, no red.

    I'll try static IP's, I printed off instructions on how to do that....thanks, I'll let you know if that works.

     yep, I have static IP's now, but it didn't help. I'm still having pops and drops.

    I have high hopes for those Intel NIC's I've ordered!

    I knew that building AMD machines might present problems, but if the new network cards fix it, it will be a great system for me. Otherwise, I'm going to send midi/audio back and forth through my RME interfaces- I know that will work, but would like the convenience of the LAN feature of VEP.

     I installed PCI-E INTEL Pro 1000 CT Desktop Adapters on both machines, installed the latest drivers, and am getting the same results, -still getting dropouts in the audio. I even bought a new cat5e chord, and directly connected both computers, but it also didn't help. Oh, yes, I disabled the onboard ports.

    In the manual, it says "Used netwerk ports: 6472, 6473, 6474, 6475, 6476, 6477"

    What does that mean?

    I'm having the same horrible performance using a dual core AMD processor. Again, system performs fine with the same template sending audio out ADAT into my DAW, but when I try to do audio over lan, performance becomes pop and click hell. Using static IP addresses, no wi-fi involved. Could it be a bug with AMD processors?

     I'm no computer expert, by any means, but my system started working a lot better after i ran  memtest. (test the RAM). Even though the test showed that there were no errors, just running the test can re-allocate memory that may have been allocated in a detrimental way.

    After trying the intel LAN cards, and no improvement, I pretty much gave up on the LAN feature. After all, my prior audio/midi routings were working perfectly fine, and I've wasted about 6 weeks (working on and off) on it, while I could have been making music.

    It's not a clock issue, because the dropouts/clicks don't happen at regular intervals.

    My guess, is that the chipset for AMD motherboards just aren't being friendly....I've only tried ASUS mb's. I really wonder if a Gigabyte motherboard would do a lot better. I'm done messing around with it though.

    What kind of motherboard do you have, and the chipset? Just curious.

    Thanks for the response. No need to run memtest as the system really works flawlessly using traditional audio/midi over lan options.

    Not sure on the motherboard - it's an AMD Athlon X2 5600 processor, 2.8 gHz.

    I'd love Vienna to chime in here and say whether or not AMD's are supported.

    • That being said, i7 machines are widely known to work reliably with VE PRO.

    There have been some "controller issues" with Realtek onboard LANs. installing Intel NIC's did not fix the problem for me.

    My only conclusion is that the chipset on the mobo with the AMD combination is not working where the LAN is concerned.

    I had the same problem with my Dual-core AMD, and Hex-core AMD machines, and they both have ASUS boards.

    I know that RAIN computers is selling Hex-core AMD machines and that they use Gigabyte boards. That's why I'm curious what Mobo you are using. http://raincomputers.com/products/ion/  

    As for me, I'm done tinkering with computers and want to get back to making music. I knew that going AMD could be risky on the outset, but desided that the cost savings was worth the gamble. Other than the LAN feature of VE-PRO, it's working marvelously, and I'm quite happy with the results. As they say, "if you want to be on the cutting edge, you're apt to bleed".

    I'm curious what results people are getting with AMD/Gigabyte mobo combinations.

    I'm not curious enough to change mobo's in my machines just to find out, but If I were doing it again, I would have tried the Gigabyte boards.
