  • Bad latency on i7 PC running Special Edition

Hi. I recently got the SE bundle. Everything works flawlessly, but I get an unacceptable high latency. Below my setup: PC: Intel i7 950, Intel MoBo DX58-SO2, 12GB DDR3 1600 Patriot RAM, WD Velociraptor WD3000GLFS (system) and 4 x WD Caviar Black 500GB in RAID 10. OS: Windows 7 Pro 64-bits. Audio Interface: Mackie ONYX 1620 w/ Firewire. (ASIO driver, normal buffer size 64) I run Sonar X1b with 5ms latency. I can run various NI VST's in standalone with 3.2ms latency. I only run ASIO. However, I tried SE w/ Vienna Ensemble and had to adjust the audio buffer to 512 in order to get clear sound. Any other config caused noise and unusuable instrument audio. I tried looking for similar treads, but did not find much. Any suggestions? Is this a known issue? Should I contact Customer Support directly? Thanks in advance.

  • This is one of two posts that were similar to my issue, but this being the closest. I'm not certain whether/how this was ever resolved. [link]http://community.vsl.co.at/forums/t/21636.aspx[/link]

  • Just as a follow-up, I had not updated VI and VE to the absolute latest versions 8008, so I did. I can now set a 256 buffer size, which reduces latency a bit. It is still noticeable, specially when playing fast attack instruments. I first noticed it when trying our the Bosendorfer for the first time. I should also clarify that this happens to me when using VI standalone. After a few support email exchange with Bernd @ VSL, I ended up trying SE within SONAR X1b, which I'm running at 2.1ms latency. Plugged in VE x64, picked the Bosendorfer, and voile, great "low-latency" playback. So the issue is a non-issue within SONAR, which I'm very glad about. Since I'd like to move to VIP and VEP soon, I'm happy to close the case at this point, as the really important piece was performance with my DAW and then notation program (differnet topic...). Thanks VSL.
