  • eSATA performance

    Hi,

Just bought a Sonnet 6 Gbps eSATA III PCIe card for my Mac Pro, for backup purposes. Am I right in assuming that a fast external drives (WD Caviar Black in a good enclosure), if connected to the card with an eSATA cable, could now perform just as good as the internal drives in my Mac when used for sample storage and playback ?

    Thanks.

  • Your HD or SSD needs to be in Sata III too

According to this table, even a drive with a SATA II controller will still be far ahead of the drive's physical transfer limits (at 7200 rpm). I'm not referring to SATA III speeds which are apparently only useful for SSDs. What I'd like to know is whether an external HDD connected with eSATA is really as fast, in real-world use, as an internal SATA HDD.
