  • One more thought. Maybe if you send something other than Program Changes to VE Pro, is it possible to use some sort of scrip within Kontakt to change this to Program Changes within Kontakt itself? I don't know enough about Kontakt scripting (note to self, learn......!) to know whether or not this is possible.

  • 1. I'm using a hybrid method: some are "one articulation per track" and some tracks contain key switches. 2. Well, I would love to, but what's the option? Kontakt banks only understand PCs. I found out, that I could use a multiscript in Kontakt. But this will only work for 4 instrument banks. 3. that's on my list for next year. 4. Yeah, that would be possible, but given the fact that I use more KS-instruments, this would still be too much. I'll check how much overhead VE Pro creates when loading single instances.

  •  A final option for you. Upgrade your sample drives to SSD, set the pre-load buffer in Kontakt to 4kb and then you should be able to load all of  this within Cubase without using VE Pro at all. The load times should be relatively low, as you will be loading less into memory (only a couple of GB or even a lot less.) and it will all load faster anyway.

  • Yes, that's what I'm already doing, using a Crucial C300 here :) If it was for one track, I wouldn't care about loading times at all. But I'm a composer for a TV series and need to switch cues quite often. I checked the VE Pro overhead, it's about 5 MB per instance. Not too bad, in fact. I will check what works out best, thanks Daryl.

Ah, sorry overlooked this one! Yes, apparently this is possible with a multiscript. But as far as I was told this only works for the first 4 instruments, since Kontakt only features 4 multiscript slots. But I'm not quite sure if this is true. I will investigate. Because that would be the only satisfiable solution I could think of without changing a lot in my template.

I wouldn't worry too much about the memory overhead. Once you get these instruments out of your Cubase project and onto V E Pro you will have plenty of memory. What might be a problem is the extra CPU overhead of all those connectors.

    Hi DG,

Because you're a Nuendo user, I have a question for you:

does Nuendo have the same midi capabilities as Cubase, including the VST expesssion maps?

    Thanks

True that, I will check this out. Geez, this really gets complicated now... @Fred, yes it does. Using both here.

  • Okay, I tried something else. People over VI-control advised me to check the Kontakt script "note to PC". At first I thought this would only affect one channel, but as I found out, the script addresses all 16 channels. Problem solved :)

  • Glad to hear it's all working now.

  • I'm happy, too! I hope this thread will be helpfull for others who run into the same problem. Best, Stevie
