    Hi All,

    I've spent the last few days going through the VSL forum and it is filled with great tips and advice so i'm hoping i could get a transparent answer to a few questions i have.

    I have £1,000 to spend on a good quality string library. So far i've narrowed my choices down to the following:

    VSL
    LASS
    Hollywood Strings
    Kirk Hunter


    (I can't afford Spitfire Audio and although the DVZ (audioimpressions) strings seems perfect for my requirements, the need for an additional slave machine is not practical)

    So my main two requirements of the string library are big in your face type scores full of expression and realism (thats kinda obvious i suppose ;-) and the ability to score intimate 4 piece chamber strings (think Elenor Rigby). So far VSL has won the vote for overall best sounding library with DVZ very very close behind. But i've also heard some very convincing LASS compositions.............

    With that in mind, what would the recommendations be and should i decide on VSL, would there be enough left in the budget for good Orchestral Brass library?

    My current system is a 10.6.7 quad 3Ghz mac, 14gb RAM running Cubase 5/6.

    My suggestion would be VSL Appassionata and VSL Chamber. By layering these two, not only do you get a big sound, but also the possibility of slight randomness which adds to the realism. One caveat; the Appassionata has less articulations than the other Collections, so make sure that there are enough for your needs.

    Chamber Stings is perfect for the Eleanor Rigby type stuff. Much better than any of the others that you mention.

    Hi DG,

    Thanks for your advice, i'm checking out the audio demo's of the collections you mentioned and i am blown away. Plus the VI Pro seems to be a perfect interface as i'm really only used to Kontakt. Also the dimension brass is something else!!! The trouble is, once you start getting into these sample sets i can imagine it's difficult to stop spending the kids University fund ;-)
