Appassionata dynamics

Hi! What is the reason for the appassionata strings not having any ff dynamics? Not complaining, just wanting to know. I'm sure there's a rational explanation for this. :D

Another thing I'm wondering is this. Is there a place where one can find some explanations how to understand the different patch settings in the manuals. For example the patch:

VI-20_perf-legato_4vel
Legato/portamento, 4 velocity sustains
Monophonic
4 velocity layers: Legato: 0–88 mp; 89–127 mf
Portamento: 0–88 p; 89–127 f
Sustains: 0–55 p; 56–88 mp; 89–108 mf; 109–127 f
Release samples
AB switch: legato/portamento

What does 4 velocity sustains mean? What means 4 velocity layers: Legato: 0–88 mp; 89–127 mf Portamento: 0–88 p; 89–127 f, because I think I'm getting the f dynamic with the legato sound also, not only with the portamento. etc.

Several articulations are recorded with certain "resolutions".

So the articulation "sustain" was recorded with 4 different levels (layers) p mp mf f.

The articulation perf-legato was recorded with two levels (legato... includes the "crossing-sound" between two notes such as portamento) = VI-20_perf_legato

VSL also combined then the sustain-articulations (4levels) with the legato-crossing-sounds of the legato-patches. = VI-20_perf-legato_4vel

So the legato crossing sounds of the 0-88 are combined with the sustains 0-55 and 56 - 88

and the legato crossing sounds of 89-127 are used together with the sutstains 89-108 and 109-127.

BTW: Those 4level-legato-articulations are very useful togehter with the Velocity-Xfade-function > nice crescendos/diminuendos are possible:

Bach: Air (first part is with Chamberstrings II / second part is with Appassionatas I)

BTW 2: I believe there are "sustain espressivo" - articulations > sound good for ff parts.

If I read the manuals correctly, those espressivo patches exist in the orchestral strings but not in appassionata. Of course the appassionatas are pretty "expressive" all the time. 😄

Sorry my dear, I didn't use the correct expression.

The name is VI-20_sus_Vib_strong / VA-14...  within the Appassionatas.

It's not always easy to know all the correct expressions from memory [:$]
