  • Connected but disconnected?

Yesterday, a strange thing happened. One of the songs I'm working on has 3 VEP RTAS plugins instantiated in Pro Tools. One 64-bit, and two 32-bit. On the slave, all 3 instances opened up with all the correct plugins and settings, but PT didn't see the second 32-bit instance. All MIDI outs and Aux inputs were greyed out and in italics. All three plugins said Connected. Tried several reboots of both Macs, but it didn't help.

So, I had to manually re-route the audio inputs and MIDI outs in PT. That fixed the routing, but some of the audio coming from the slave were totally out of sync. Specifically, all Stylus RMX and Maschine plugins played out of sync, but none of them were in the aforementioned 32-bit instance. I saved the session (all coupled, not preserved), quit PT and VEP Server and rebooted both machines. Didn't help - still out of sync. Then I tried to open the session, preserve all 3 instances, and only reboot the master Mac. That fixed it!

I have no idea why this happened, but I sure would love to avoid this in the future. Thanks.

  •  Same thing this morning, although this time everything works except RMX and Maschine doesn't receive sync from the host again. I know this because the tempo of this song is 125, and Maschine shows a default of 120. So, I had to deactivate the aux in PT with VEP 64-bit plugin, and then re-activate the aux. Everything back to normal.

I must still be doing something wrong...

  • When you shut down the VE Pro instances must be both preserved and coupled.

  •  I understand that they must be coupled, but preserved? No, that can't be right. None of my other recent projects has any issues, and they are not preserved.
