  • Oboe part playing back cor!

    Andy

    VE Winds and brass soundset

Small thing - my oboes were playign back on the cor channel. Having checked the soundset the ID for oboe was oboes.frenchoboe or something. this did not work in Sib. I changed it to just oboes.oboe and it is now fine.

Perhaps when you have a spare second you ought to update it

  • Hi Steve!

The Sound ID for the oboe is wind.oboes.oboe.french. In theory this should be ok, just as wind.oboes.oboe. I did a quick test with a woodwind ensemble including an Oboe and a Cor anglais. Both instruments played on the correct channels. I will do some more tests next week and if necessary change the entry for the Oboe Sound ID.
Which instruments do you use in your score?
Which Sibelius version are you using?

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hi Andi

Sib 6.2  - the problem was occurring when I had either oboes + cor or just oboes. Either way, both Oboes were triggering the cor sound.

Changing the soundset has definitely solved the problem - but if no-one else is having a problem then no problem!

Now to see why the drums aren't been triggered.....!

  • Hi Steve!

I did some more tests with the oboe and it always played correctly on my machine. If you want to, I can take a closer look at your score and playback configuration. In this case just send me an e-mail.

    Concerning your drums problem:
    What drums are you using?
Which Sibelius instrument did you choose?
Which sound set are you using?

    Best,
    Andi

  • No problem with the Oboe - as I say it now works for me as I have adjusted the soundset

re drums - I have always had issues! Using SE drums and  your soundset for SE with timps able to use velocity crossfade (you posted here for me I think - thanks!). But the drums always default to channel 10! I then have to manually set the channel (as one cannot choose the instrument in the mixer in sibelius for the drums sets or cymbals like other instruments) - which gets irritating when swapping from score to score as it generally re-adjusts. And it gets more confused if I try to have two 'drum' channels so I can have different eq on bass drum from snare (likewise cymbals and gongs)

  • Hi Steve!

If you set the channels on the Manual Sound Sets page, it shoudn't matter which channel you use. They shouldn't default to 10. Also it shouldn't matter, if you are using more than one channel with the program "Drums".
Some drums and percussion problems can be solved by using the Vienna Symphonic Library House Style. Lots of percussion instruments are defined for the VSL sound sets there. You can download the latest version here:
    http://www.vsl.co.at/en/68/141/460/576/655.htm

After importing the House Style you may have to add the problematic instruments to your score again. Afterwards cut and paste the content of the old staves to the new ones.

    I hope this helps.

    Best,
    Andi

  • Andi - thanks, I'll give it a go. Although I have been doing exactly as you say and have been using the  Vienna Symphonic Library House Style, albeit a slightly older one
