  • Vienna Choir as an RTAS plug - in with Pro Tools 8 windows version

Does the Vienna Choiras work as an RTAS instrument in Pro Tools 8 windows version. I am asking as the spec. seems to exclude this as it states VST (OS X, Win), AU (Mac) or RTAS (Mac) compatible host when used as a plug-in?

    Thanks

    John

  •  Vienna Instruments doesn't work

However I think that all other flavours of the player (including Vienna Ensemble) do work.

  • Thanks for the feedback. I have looked at Vienna Ensemble and although it does state that it includes the RTAS format is also states that it includes  Inserts for AU (Mac) and VST (PC) effect plug-ins. Missing out RTAS for the pc could be a mistake but some how I need confidence that if I purchase Vienna Choir it will be fully compatible for use with Pro Tools 8.

  • Vienna Ensemble 4.1 has an RTAS plugin for Windows that is verified to work in Pro Tools 8. In fact, all VSL plugins except Vienna Instruments have a Windows RTAS plugin available.

  • Many thanks for that clarification which is great news. Does that mean that Vienna Ensemble includes an insert effects plugin for RTAS as this is not stated in theVienna Ensemble spec.

  • It includes an RTAS instrument plugin, which should be put on an instrument track in Pro Tools.

  • Thank you again for your response. Yes I was assuming that the RTAS Instrument plugin would be put on an instrument track in Pro Tools. However I still do not understand why the spec says "Inserts for AU (Mac) and VST (PC) effect plug-ins" and excludes RTAS!  However I will now look at all the tutorials as the Vienna Choir and Vienna Ensemble  appear to be what I need. They seem to be excellent products.

  • I may be totally wrong here, but AFAIK the connector from PT to VE is available as RTAS, but you can only load VST plugs into VE itself. This is only a problem so far as you will need to have both VST and RTAS versions of your plugs, should you wish to use them both in PT and VE.

    DG

  • Exactly. The VE Service Interface plugin comes as VST2/VST3/RTAS/AU but VE itself will only host VST/AU effect plugins.

  • Thanks for the clarification DG and Karel
