Thanks DG and Dietz.  That is actually a good question of which I haven't been able to confirm or toss out yet.  I also have a Presonus USB Audiobox sitting around at home new in the box.  I am going to bring that to work in the meantime to see if it works.  I have support calls into M-Audio but I may never hear from them.  They are the worst support, second only to Gigastudio which is long gone.

 That's why I suggest a quick ASIO4ALL test, as you could find out the answer within minutes.

In principle, there's nothing wrong with a second soundcard (as long as they don't run into some resource conflict hardware-wise). You yould connect the two interfaces digitally - just make sure that you sort out the digital clocking. There's much more info available on this topic in the MIR Manual on p. 79 ff ("2.2.3. Using multiple individual audio interfaces for Vienna MIR and a MIDI sequencer / DAW / notation program").

 Thanks DG, I did the test and it worked fine with ASIO4ALL drivers.  So it seems that the M-Audio isn't multi-client.

Dietz, what I meant by bringing in my Presonus soundcard was taking the M-Audio out of the machine and using the Presonus one instead to see if the Presonus was multi-client :).

Thanks for the info though but I think having two physical soundcards running this system would be to much of a mess.  I would rather by another soundcard and not have the headache haha.  I am trying to keep things simple and effecient, hence why I use MIR lol.

I will let you know tomorrow if the Presonus is multi-client.

Ok so the Presonus soundcard is multi-client.  I removed the M-Audio and installed it and instantly both worked together very nicely.  The only problem I have now is that when I flip over to MIR while doing a playback, Studio One stops playing until I click back to Studio One.  I have set it up to release the sound driver in the background but this had no effect on it stopping playback when in the background.  This is obviously not a VSL issue.  I have a support call into Presonus on how to get playback to continue while in the background.

A gut feeling tells me that the DAW _should not_ release the drivers when the application is in the background (at least that's the way it would work in Nuendo or Cubase).

 Well darn that will suck because then I can't do any realtime changing my stage around while my project is playing.  Essentially I won't be able to mix and apply eq's etc in realtime then?

 Before you give up on this, may I ask how you're piping the sound back into the sequencer from MIR?

You didn't miss anything Dietz hehe, you had said in an earlier post that the DAW shouldn't release the drivers in the background and for some reason at the time I read it I interpreted it as "The DAW shouldn't keep playing while in the background" (so was my reading skills letting me down at the moment lol).  Which would in fact make mixing in real time impossible :).  Now I can see that wasn't what you were saying.  So hopefully I can resolve this with Presonus because currently when I click over to MIR, Studio One completely stops playing (more like pauses) and the moment I click it into the foreground it starts playing again.

LoopBe1 is a device for virtual MIDI cables. and doesn't deal with audio. So the question remains; how are you getting the audio back into your DAW?

At the moment I am not piping the audio back into Studio One on this machine at all.  I am simply listening to MIR's output through headphones.  On my main machine at the studio I pipe the audio to Studio One with my Multiface 2.

The reason that I'm asking, is that MIR should not share an audio output with your sequencer. If it does, you may end up with no sound at all.

Well I got it all working now.  Presonus support called me back and told me that logically you would think the option to "release the driver in the background" would be the way to accomplish this but in reality it actually causes the opposite effect.  So once I unchecked it everything worked perfectly.  They said they are going to rename that option in a future patch to it more clear as they themselves thought that checking it would have been what I wanted to do.

Thanks again for all the help.  I can now send/recieve in and out of MIR and Studio One and also mix in real-time in MIR while playing my projects in Studio One.

Aboslutely!  It works wonderful!  I am mixing in MIR as we speak!  I love this software it's completely changed my life in Virtual Instrumentation!
