  • Harp Sound Set Problem In Sibelius

    Hello VSL Gatekeepers,

I located a problem in your Percussion sound set last Spring, I seem to be having some issue with the harp soundset as well.

When playing back harp in Sibelius using VE Pro 64bit I can never get the velocity to playback correctly. With Vel. X-Fader set to CC#11, as works well with every other instance, for some reason harp does not properly read incoming messages from Sibelius. I attempt to program the 14 minute piece with custom midi commands, but the problem is, the Harp Instrument constantly resets the fader to 64. I moved CC#11 to Expression and saw it as the same issue, some sort of communication error over CC 11. Any thoughts on what could be wrong? Thank you, Chris Sibelius 6.2 Power Mac 2X2.93 GhZ Quad-Core Intel Xeon 32 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 OSX 10.6.6 VE Super Package VE Choir Vienna Imperial

  • Hello Chris!

The Harp sound set is not intended to work with Velocity XFade. This controller is mainly for usage with instruments that can make crescendos or diminuendos within one note. On a real harp you couldn't make a crescendo on a string, once it was plucked.

Just turn off Velocity XFade for the harp and everything should be fine.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Hey Andi, Thanks, I don't know what I was thinking. I forgot the purpose of the X-Fade tool. :) Chris

  • Hi Andi I just recently get the Full Library Harp 1, and I was having problems with dynamic changes. Effectively there were no changes. I then changed the Expression setting to CC11 instead of CC12, leaving Velocity X-Fade on CC11 as well. With X-Fade on or off the result seems to be the same. Now I'm very happy with the dynamic changes. Phil

  • Hello Phil!

In the Harps VI Presets for Sibelius only bisbigliando has Velocity X-Fade activated. I agree that the dynamic range is not very high for the Harps. Instead of setting Expression to CC11, I would raise the DynR-fader to get a higher dynamic range.

    Best regards,
    Andi
