  • Sibelius 5, MIR and Percussion....

    Dear all,

I am using Vienna MIR 1810, Sibelius 5 und the special editions. The hole system is working fine, except one problem. I can not hear the sound of the Bass drum, the triangle and the piatti. Even if I creat a 5 line system in Sibelius and use only the notes shown in the Vienna instruments user interface there is only sinlence. If I touch the key on the fingerboard I can hear the sound perfect. I think I checked out all connecitons between the softwares but I can not find the problem.

    So what can I do?

Thanks a lot for helping me

    Kind regards

    Timo

(P.S. No problems with timpani ....)

  • Hello T.Gruen!

I recommend using Sibelius with the Special Edition sound set and the Vienna Symphonic Library House Style. If you haven't done so yet, you can download these at the following location:
    http://vsl.co.at/en/68/141/460/576/655.htm

The percussion will only work with Sibelius if you choose the right Sibelius instruments:
    Bass Drum for the Bass Drum;
    Triangle for the Triangle;
    Cymbals for the Piatti.

    Best regards,
    Andi

  • Sorry it is me again, thanks for your answer

I am using Sibelius with the special Edition sound sets and the Library House Style. I am using also Loop be 30 and JBridge. After selecting all instruments for my score (choosen them with their correct Sibelius name), I have to define the Sibelius playback configuration. There I choose the "internal midi channel": Those channels have allready "General midi" for sound set. Its impossibel to use the Special Edition sound sets here, they don`t appear in the window when I try to change the sound sets... And the General midi sound set does not content bass Drum, Triangle and Cymbals....

So maybe you can give me support

    Best regards

    Timo

  • Hi Timo!

I just remembered that it's only possible with Sibelius 6 to use the Special Edition Sound Set with non-VST or non-AU output devices.
It's possible to edit the sound set in a way, that you can use it for external MIDI outputs or Loopbe afterwards also with Sibelius 5. Open the sound set with a text editor and look for the following string:
    <PatchLoadMechanism>Fixed</PatchLoadMechanism>
    Change this entry to
    <PatchLoadMechanism>MIDI</PatchLoadMechanism>
and save the sound set with a different filename afterwards.

    I hope this helps.

    Andi

  •  Hi Andi,

I did how you told me and checked again in the Sibelius VST folder if there is saved the "changed version" of the Sound sets. And it is. But the problem is still the same. I choose internal Midi but can not find the three instruments in the general midi sound set. Or have I to choose an other sound set for the internal Midi channel now?

    Thanks for your patience

    Timo

  • Hi Timo!

Please use the Special Edition sound set.

    Best, Andi

  •  Ciao Andi,

    I am really sorry,

but the Special Edition sound set is not part of the list of possibel sound sets of my internal Midi Channel. Do I use the wrong folder for the SE sound set (I put it in the Sibelius VST folder...)?

    Thanks,

    Timo

  • Hello Tim!

The sound sets have to be located in the following folder:
    Windows XP:
    Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5 (or 6)\Sounds
    Windows Vista and Windows 7:
    Users\your username\AppData\Roaming\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5 (or 6)\Sounds
    Mac OS X:
    Users/your username/Library/Application Support/Sibelius Software/Sibelius 5 (or 6)/Sounds

More infos can be found in the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual. If you haven't done so yet, you can download it at the following location:

    Best,
    Andi
