Hi everyone. I just wanted to post this... on December 24th my house was burglarized and my brand new MacPro QuadCore was stolen. Sadly, i lost a lot of original music on all the hard drives that they also took. Needless to say, i am absolutely devastated.
However, one good thing is that they did not steal my Vienna Key, which was attatched to a USB hub that they unplugged in order to steal the computer,
So just for clarification, i am still "safe" as far as VSL goes, correct? I mean, my licenses are on the key, not the computer. So when i get a new computer (if my stolen one is not recovered) all i have to do is just download all the data in my user area (the instruments, VI player, VE Pro, etc) Correct? I hope so.
Incidentally, i realize that if the theif is stupid enough to try to sell it online, i have a good chance of getting it back thanks to serial numbers, etc. I am in Arizona, United States. I know the VSL customer base spans the globe, but i wanted to list some stats just in case anyone happens to come across this being sold on eBay or something like that. Who knows what these crooked people plan to do, but i hope and pray i get it back. Here is the description:
Newest model (Aug2010) Apple Mac Pro
2.8 Ghz Quad Core Processor ("Nehalem" processor)
4 Internal drives
10 Gigs RAM
-- here is some details specific to mine, which may send up a red flag as it to being mine:
-- I had 4 hard-drives installed (stock Mac Pro comes with one) There were two 1 Terabyte (1TB) drives, and two other drives, which i believe were 160 Gig, and 250 Gig.
-- 10 Gigs of RAM. This is an upgrade i installed. Stock mac comes with 3 Gig, usually people fully upgrade to 8 or 12 or 16, so the 10Gig amount is a little less common, and may help identify my computer.
--There are tons of software programs installed. Photoshop, Logic Pro, Peak Audio, Vienna Symphonic Instruments, too many software instruments and plug-ins to mention. I bring this up because sometimes people try to sell a computer with "LOTS OF PRE-INSTALLED SOFTWARE!" or "MUSIC PRODUCTION COMPUTER WITH AUDIO APPLICATIONS" as a tagline to try to make it sound like a great deal or attract a buyer looking for a specific-use computer.
-- The theives were gracious enough to leave me my Apple keyboard and mouse. The mac came with a wired keyboard and a wireless mouse (Apple's "Magic Mouse") so anyone selling just the Mac Pro tower, WITHOUT a KB & M or with an after market brand, that might also be a red flag
Anyhow, im sorry for filling up the VSL forum with such a personal matter, but i'm trying to cover every possible base i can in the hopes that i get it back, and i figure the more word i can get out there, teh better chance i have of getting my precious music back. If anyone DOES happen to come across an advertisement fitting close to this description, please do post here and let me know.
Thank you for reading.
