What's a good patch to use after the initial note of a slurred section (for example in strings) at a moderate tempo? Some patches have a slower attack and don't sound quickly enough. Other patches have a quicker attack but all the notes sound like a new bow stroke. I'm curious to find out what the smart folks do.

slurring (legato) notes

By no stretch of the imagination am I one of the aforementioned "smart folks" but do you have any fast legato patches? Also, you can edit the individual attacks of the cell by editing the cell itself. FWIW, with regards to strings, I'll usually start my legato passages with a detache. Depending on the passage though.
Maybe I'm not understanding your question.

If I have a passge of 16th notes at QN=100 bpm and I use (just for example) the patch titled "VI-14_0'3s-1" it sounds OK, but Is there a better patch? Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "cells." Do you mean the midi information in a particular measure or section that controls the patch (sound)? And, which one of those patches in the VSL represents "detache?" I can't find bowing indications like that. I'm more used to working with live players.

It might be more helpful if we start from the beginning. Which library are you refering to? I don't know what VI-14_0'3s-1 refers to. Would that be the Orchestral Strings 1 Library? For detache, go to your Patch Assign page, 01 SHORT + LONG NOTES then just find the detache short or long depending on whether you have the full library or just the standard. it's spelled out.

I use GigaStudio Orchestra to play the sounds from VSL Pro Edition (2004) Library. In my library, the bowings are not spelled out. I got it a few years ago but couldn't take the time to really learn it. Now that some things have changed in my life I'm trying to navigate the sometimes bewildering world of VSL. The "VI-14_0'3s-1" is one of the sounds from the Violin Ensemble section. It's really supposed to be 14 violins playing a note for a third of a second in duration, but when I string them together they sound more or less connected (legato). I was just wondering if there was a more or less well-known way of stringing notes together. After all, musicians think more in terms of groups of notes rather than notes as single entities. At least I do anyway. Meanwhile I'm trying other possibilities from some of the other sounds. Thanks for your input.

OK, that makes more sense. You might want to try posting in the GigaStudio Topics portion of the forum http://community.vsl.co.at/forums/12.aspx
It doesn't get much traffic but you never know. Good luck to you.

I never got the hang of the performance tool in GigaStudio (which is what you'll have to master). The Vienna Instruments engine, esp. VI Pro is far more intuitive IME. Will that library not load in VI? I would recommend VI and VE Pro and lose Giga if possible.
