    Hello everyone.

    I am just getting started with using VSL and I need some direction.  I currently have a Mac G5 2.5ghz Dual Core with about 4gb.  I was thinking about maxing out the ram to 16gb and purchasing a Mac Pro2.8GHz QuadCore with 8 to 16gb of ram.  I am currently running Logic Studio on my G5.  OR should I build a power house PC with mega drives and ram and use my G5 as my Master?  Any suggestions are greatly welcomed!!  I know there may be other posts like this but I really appreciate your help!!!

    to be honest: the powerPC series are getting an ancient species meanwhile ... so if you don't need the G5 for any hardware or software backward compatibility i'd rather go the macPro route ...

    of course it's also a question of budget - you could also get a reasonable good i7 slave (say i7-950 12 GB RAM) for about € 1.200.-

    and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.

    Well let's discuss both senarios.  If money wasn't an issue, what would be a great setup for VSL (maybe Vienna Super Package) and Logic Studio?  Would you go with just one powerful machine or two?

    a quick look into the apple store shows for $ 9.550.-

  • Two 2.93GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon “Westmere” (12 cores) 24GB (6X4GB) ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB
  • 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive 2 x 2TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive

    • which should allow even big arrangements on a single machine (VI/VE woudn't require so much CPU power, but presumably also a bunch of plugins had to run, maybe some impulse responses, ect)

    for me it would also be a question of how familiar i'd like to get with 2 operatingsystems instead of one and which preferences for workflow or studio setup do apply.
