  • Orchestra Composers — Need A Live Demo?

    Hello!

So I know the instruments in VSL sound really great, but if you really want to be landing work, you need some live recordings for your portfolio. If you compose for orchestra, you probably appreciate just how difficult it is to get performances of your pieces.

I've booked a studio session for just that purpose, recording a demo, but I don't need all of the studio time. So I've decided to sell off the extra time in small chunks.

This is a great opportunity for you to get a live recording for your portfolio, performed by a professional symphony orchestra.

Please check out the eBay listing for further details if you are interested, and direct any questions to me via the auction page:

Thank you for reading! Hope to get the chance to work with you soon.

  • If you feel like sharing, I would love to know a) which/what kind of movie/TV you are recording for (European, American, etc), and listen to some of your Bratislava recording when it's done; I would really appreciate it, and I'm sure others here would as well.

    All the best.

  • It didn't occur to me that it could be, I visited this guy's website, it seemed legitimate enough and if it actually is I don't see much wrong with this advertisement.

  • Sorry, but I think it's in very bad taste. Legitimacy has nothing to do with it IMO. It would be like me coming to our website and offering my services as a composer, because I can do a better job.  [:O]

There are plenty of general music and VI forums to advertise on, but this is not one of them.

  • I must admit I haven't really given it much thought, but your example seems very different to me than what is on offer here. However, I agree with you that VSL shouldn't become an advertising column, unless the moderators agree to dedicate a separate category for relevant "classifieds" so that they are not interspersed between regular threads. I think at least so far that we haven't been inundated with spam for it to become a problem but I do see the threat of such a potentiality. I would very much like you to submit some of these fora you mentioned in which such advertisements abound, for I know of none...

I still would like to hear some of the finished recording of Jared's music eventually, if he would share it with us.

  • Go to Northern Sounds or VI Control.

  • I didn't find anything during a quick perusal in Northern Sounds, but I did find a dedicated classifieds-area at VI Control, thanks.

  • I think you are better off using local talent as it would be a nightmare leaving all the decisions to a conductor you haven't met or talked to. I did my masters at Mcgill and there were loads of very proficient musicians willing to do recordings for cheap or even free if you were friends. I did have to pay the master students studying engineering but that was a school policy and it was only 50$ most likely to cover the gear that kept on going missing. lol.
