Divisi and sforzato

I try to create divisi with the "Beat Kaufmann method".

I set Transpose in Semitones to 2 and Pitch Bend to 0 in Vienna Instruments Pro.

This seems to work (I hope I do it right).

But when there is a sforzato note on this staff, it does not turn off but keeps playing.

What's the problem?

Sorry, but I don't understand the problem. Could you answer a few questions?
Which DAW or notation software are you using?
If you are using Sibelius, with which sound set does this problem occur?
What is the "Beat Kaufmann method" for divisi?
What does not turn off, when there is a sforzato note?

I'm using Sibelius 6.

All soundsets, for example the trumpet.

"Beat Kaufmann method":

Say you want two trumpets to play the same melody. If you just write the same notes for both trumpets they are going to use the same samples and the only effect is that the melody sounds louder. To force Vienna to play different samples you can transpose one of the trumpets up two halftones and then bitchbend it down two halvtones.

Normally, notes sound according to their note values, whole notes, halfnotes and so on.

But in this case, the notes marked sfz never stop, they sound forever. In other words, a quarter note marked sfz keeps sounding even if other notes follow after that.

Thanks for your explanations. Now I understand the problem, but it still sounds a bit odd for me. [^o)]

To get a better picture what's going on I have some further questions.
Does this problem only occur with the sforzato articulation?
Does the sound set switch correctly to the sforzato articulation?
Do other articulation changes work as expected?
Do you have the two trumpets notated on two staves?
Do these two trumpets play on different MIDI channels?

Let's make it really simple.

I created two staves in Sibelius, this time two clarinets, with the matrix Clarinet Bb+ from the Special Edition.

The two clarinets are on channel 1 and channel 2.

Case 1.

Both staves have one quarter note marked fp (not sfz this time).

Then I do the semitone up and pitch bend down trick on the lower staff.

When I play the upper staff the fp articulation is trigged and the note is played right.

When I play the lower (the pitch bend) staff the fp articulation is switched on right again, BUT the note keeps playing without stop.

Case 2.

I put a normal sustain note after the fp note on the lower staff (the pitch bend staff).

Then I play the lower staff.

The fp note plays as described above: the articulation switches on, but the note keeps playing.

As for the other note, the articulation is switched correctly to "sustain" and the note is played right.

But the fp note sounds without stop in the background.

Hi Pekay!

I see. It seems that Sibelius sends the note off too late or not at all. I would try to shorten the "Live duration" of the hanging note in the Sibelius/Properties/Playback window. You could also try to insert a note off MIDI command for the hanging instrument with the following syntax:
~Oxx,10
xx stands for the pitch (C1=12, C#1=13, C2=24, ...)
