  • Vienna Ensemble 7053 Running with Notion 3.1.281

I am running Notion 3.1.281 and a score that contains two Vienna Ensemble Instances. One instance contains 9 channels and the other contains 12 channels. For some reason, upon loading the score, both instances load as a 32-bit Vienna Ensemble Service module. At the same time and for some strange reason, the 64-bit module is loading as an empty instance. While on the other hand a similar score only loads in the 64-bit instances.

    1. How do I get VE v.7053 to reset its defaults to load only as 64-bit instances? I want 64-bit instances so that I can take full advantage of my available RAM (16 Gigs on a 2.7ghz core duo iMac running Snow Leopard).

Thanks for any help or comments.

  • Was the score you're loading created with VE 2 by any chance? If so, loading it with VE 4 will automatically load it into 32bit Service instances, because VE 2 didn't have a 64bit Service on Mac (otherwise third party effect plugins might not load properly). Also an option is that you accidentally created this score with instances connected to the 32bit Service. This can happen if you only have the 32bit Service running before instanciating a Service Interface plugin.

VE 4's automatic connection works in the following order:
    - Try to connect to the 64bit Service, if that fails...
    - Try to connect to the 32bit Service, if that fails...
    - Launch the 64bit Service and connect to it, if that fails (which might happen if you're on a 32bit system)...
    - Launch the 32bit Service and connect to it

When loading a Notion score, it will always connect to the Service you were connected to when saving the score, launching the Service if necessary.

To switch your project to 64bit, simply exit the 32bit Service after loading the score (the Service Interface plugins will disconnect automatically), then click the reconnect button on them and they will connect to the 64bit Service (launching it if necessary). Your instance data will be loaded automatically.

  • Thank you Karel,

Closing the 32-bit Instance of the Service and leaving the 64-bit running was the order. Would be nice if there was a way to just choose a 64-bit default while running as a Custom Vienna Ensemble instance in Notion, but preferences are only available when running standalone.

    Saved the day for now...
