  • Finale questions

I'm a long time Finale user, thinking about buying the Special Edition Library. A couple questions. 1. My computer is a Macbook Pro 2.66 i7, 4 mgs. RAM, 7200 HDD., with external 7200 HDD also. What kind of performance can I expect with Finale & VSL with this combination? Is it better to install the samples on the MBP HD, or the external drive? 2. The demos on the site sound great. But I assume that they were created in a DAW. Are there any demos of Finale/VSL playback that you can point me to? Thanks, JET

  • It is generally suggested that you store your sound libraries on a devoted disk, not used for anything else. In your case, it would have to be a devoted external disk.

  • Hello JET!

Your Macbook should be strong enough for having good performance values with Finale and the Special Edition. Like michelp said, it is recommended to have the sample content installed on another disk, than the system disk.
Pretty much all of our demos are created with DAWs. I don't know of a Finale-VSL demo.

    Best regards,

  • Thank you both for your replies. One more question regarding using an external drive for the samples. I have a 2TB external drive that I allocate 1.5 for Time machine, and a separate 500 Gig partition for separate storage. Can I install the samples on this separate partition, or do I need a separate physical drive for them?

  • Hi JET!

It shouldn't be a problem to install the content on the 500 GB partition. Be aware, that you may have performance problems when Time machine is backing up at the same time.

    Best,
    Andi
