  • Articulations and Sibelius commands

It would be very helpful if there could be a list of articulations for an instrument collection like Solo Strings making it clear which Sibelius command triggers which articulation.

I realize that many articulations are triggered by terms already defined in the Vienna House style / Sibelius playback dictionary. Some of these are listed in the Optimize manual produced by VSL - which is very helpful.

However, what about performance sounds - the scale runs for instance and the perf repetitions - or different detaches and legatos? A list that could be checked would be really useful.

Can they all be triggered by score symbols and text in Sibelius?

Anyone else have any thoughts about this?

  • Hello Oceanview!

All articulations, which can be triggered with the Solo Strings sound set and the according VI Presets, are listed in the "Optimizing Sibelius Playback" manual.

If you want to make custom presets with articulations not included in the preset, I recommend using no Sound Set ("None") and changing articulations with MIDI commands (see more details on how to do that in the Sibelius Reference chapter 4.17).
Another possibility would be replacing articulations you don't need in the preset. You can then trigger these articulations the way you would have triggered the replaced ones.

    I hope this was helpful.

    Best regards,
