I've been tracking down an issue that's been bugging me for a while. I use a trick in Kontakt 4.1 a lot of using one instance to share similar instruments that share samples - this keeps the overall RAM usage down. I use Symphobia, and with efficient planning I can literally halve the RAM use this way.
This trick works in Kontakt standalone and Sonar 8.5 with or without using jBridge (I use this in a 32 bit environment to make full use of my available 3.5gb). However, it doesn't work using VE Pro - here memory is fully used by each instrument, even if they share all samples.
I'm still on an older version of VE Pro - 4686 (I'm a bit conservative... if it works I often don't update it!). Is this a known issue? Should I update to the latest version? Thanks for any help...

VE Pro and sample sharing in Kontakt

Looks like this issue is more complex for me and DOES affect standard Kontakt use within Sonar, and is to do with reloading patches that share samples - their memory use doubles. Thread on the Sonar forum here - http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?high=&m=2090878&mpage=1#2090878
