  • MIR Vienna Konzerthaus Foyer- 1st stair

I have been composing works for the Venu Vienna Konzerthaus Foyer -1st stair. I was astounded by the effect the room has on the sounds of the instruments. I used the Stereo X-Y Wide Reversal  (foyer) microphone to record the sessions. This microphone has a curious shape that really captures the venus room characteristics. The reverberation of the room is rich, round, and has a 3 dimensional depth that seems to be absent in the artificial reverb software that I have used in the past. I posted two examples of recent recording on my You Tube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/Bachbeatty . 043 Orchestral Fantasy and 044 Nocturne for Orchestra

  • The main microphone array's curious shape comes from the fact that this special setup has its main axis directed downwards ("from the north to the south"), opposed to the more common upwards direction ("from the south to the north") of all other presets. So, in case you had the instruments positioned above the main microphone, it actually did point _away_ from them. This will give you mostly diffuse reflections of the room. :-) An unusual setup, but a valid one nonetheless!

In any case - the Konzerthaus Foyer is an incredible sounding, beautiful hall. I've been there only a few weeks ago and had to clap my hands inconspicuously  ;-) , just to get that blooming reverb. -  Glad to hear you like it as much as I do.
