  • [SOLVED] Vi Pro & Logic 9.1.1 (64 bit) sometimes plays a different instrument or no sound

    Hello.

When I play some pitches, say Alto Flute on the A above middle C, softly, I'll get an attack of a string instrument.  This one occurs when I play the trill-1 patch.  Other instruments even won't play certain pitches until I've played them twice.  I've also just noticed that the Oboe (Vienna) is not changing articulations upon keyswitching now.  It did when I first set it up.  And the English Horn (French) plays a flute sound on the F above middle C.

I've double checked all of the patches for each instrument I'm using, and it looks like all of the patches are loaded for the correct instruments.

There are several other similar issues on all of the other instruments (12 VI Pro instance) in Logic.  I hope there is something I'm overlooking, so you can help me fix it!

    Thanks!

  • Hello Dennis,

this sounds like you have some assignment troubles (e.g., MIDI channels set to "multi" instead of a certain MIDI channel, or MULTI assigned in the port window) with your setup. Can you verify this behaviour with less instances?

  • Thanks, Paul.

I set each of the 12 channels in Logic to their own MIDI channel, and things are working as they should now.  Amazing!  After many years of working with Logic and sampled instruments, I'd forget this [:)]

  • Whoops!

Now, I've notice the same thing happening again, after Logic sits open for a while.  I've made sure the MIDI numbers are set correctly, and I've changed nothing in VI Pro.  I've just noticed for Orch Violins that the notes C-D# will not play unless I hit the keys very hard, and then they will play only every second time I hit them.  And, when I play the A just below middle-C, it will play a flute sound in addition to the string sound.

I've reloaded a VE Pro 64 bit template in Logic 9.1.1, and things are working smoothly.  I just can't see what is happening with VI Pro.  It seems like everything should just play properly, since I haven't done anything to edit the processes in VI Pro.  I love the idea of VI Pro, but right now it's not working right for me.  I tried loading the Violins+ matrix, and the same thing.

Also, the Oboe gets stuck playing only the Flatter sound.

    Thanks

  • Hello Dennis,

please contact us at and include a step-by-step description on how to reproduce this behaviour, best with a logic song. Also, please include your systems specs (OS, used versions of VE PRO, VI PRO, eLCC....)

    We´ll look into it!

    Best,

    Paul

  • The same happens here... even when I just load a single matrix of let's say appassionata strings... sometimes a tuba note is triggered...

I find this very strange since no Tuba or any instrument  is loaded (except for the app strings)

This is just an example. It doesn't happen always with the same notes or same instruments. When I reboot and open the projects again, there's a big chance the problems are gone... but then their occur to other instruments/samples.

    Mac Pro 2x2.66 DualCore /7 GB RAM/ OSX10.6.4 / Logic 9.1.1

I haven't bought it yet, I'm running the demo license,

    Greetings,

    Bart  Delissen

  • Hello Bart,

Thanks for reporting - we can´t seem to reproduce this here. Which version of VI PRO / VE PRO is that? Please keep observing and tell us about any pattern you find. If you can send us an mp3 () of what you hear and include the logic song, this could be helpful.

The demo license is fully functional, so no worries there.

Thanks for your help in improving VI PRO!!

    Best,

    Paul

  • I can confirm this behavior. It happened to me too when playing a single instance of VI pro (no VE).

On some of the high notes of a violins patch I got basses. Has not happened since, but after seeing that thread I thought I'd mention it.

  • Wanted to let you know how this was solved:

Before I did the very latest updates of everything, I switched MIDI interfaces.  I was using the emagic MT4 interface.  I plugged in MIDI to the Presonus Firestudio Mobile interface.  I noticed right away a better MIDI response time.  Audio has always been pretty good.

I let things rest for a few hours before updating, and it seemed to be stable.  Then I did the updates (Vi Pro, VE Pro, eLicenser).

I have 13 VSL instruments loaded in VI Pro, and two 32 bit Audio Unit Bridge instruments.  I have VI Pro Instruments using 12 or 12 patches each.  I left Logic with VI Pro open overnight, and this morning everything was working very well!

Thanks, Paul, for staying with me via Support!
