    I have a question:

    · When is the CPU of the Host Computer under ProTools HD (RTAS) used...Just when activating the PlugIn to get access to the slave machine?

    · Does it make a difference if I have for example 10 pairs of Audio instruments open - not used - or if they are not existant?

    · Or is the CPU of the Host just used, when Audio and MIDI get transferred?

    I have a template with a lot of pairs from the server to the host... for that, it would be important to know, what way saves most CPU...or if it´s used, when played...

    The network and CPU cost is mostly determined by actual MIDI events and audio data. An instance that is just sitting idle while connected will still use a minimal amount of the network and CPU though. Using less instances should be the most efficient way of working with the VE Pro Server as you can then avoid having this minimal cost per instance, as well as having less network connections.

    Hi Karel, thanks for the info...

    Is there a possibility to check what VEPro takes on CPU power of slave and/or master...Or do I just have the possibility to check that with the MacSystemPrograms, where I can also check RAM etc.?

    The CPU meters in the master host and the VE Pro Server instances should reveal a lot in this regard.

    So are you saying that we are better off in ProTools using a single server instance, utilizing 8 ports AS OPPOSED TO (8) instances utilizing 1 port each? This is what I thought as well, based on activity monitor, but the Logic guys keep discussing having 10 or more instances, and I wonder how they are managing their resources at the host. Are we simply better off with RTAS (and VST3) hosts vs. AU?

    "Logic guys" have to work around the limitations of both their sequencer and the AU spec. All hosts have certain problems, and the art is to know which ones are specific to yours.
