  • VEP - Controller assignment in Stand Alone mode

Are there any plans to be able assign a controller to a 3rd party plug in parameter in VEP?

This is such a basic function. Am I missing something?

I know controller messages get passed thru to the plugin but many, many plugins dont have internal re-assignment features. Most other hosts similar to VEP have it - Plogue, EnergyXT, Forte, Cantible, Chainer, Console, Kore

Surely VEP is going to ;( I bought it thinking this was in it naturally

I havent used network version yet because I preferr to farm out to pcs with sound cards using midi over lan. But in the network version are all parameters accessable via automation?

    Cheers

    Ben

  • anyone?

  • Plugin parameter automation over network is indeed one of the features planned for the next major update of VE Pro. It's hard to say when this will be exactly though.

  • Thanks for the reply Karel

Please add it to stand alone as well.

Also dont forget about fxp/fxb load save.

  • And how exactly do I automate panning, volume, sends in the VEP mixer? I see this advertsied but just cant find a way in stand alone. Does it work in network mode?

    Side Note:

Why stand alone? you may ask. Most big composer setups will farm to 3 or more pcs running multiple streams. It's not possible to run this many through the network and get broadcast level performance. We need to use multiple adat or madi returns (up to 90 channels) to a realtime mixing system such as analog, PT HD or in my case Scope.

Please consider this scenario. Ideally if we could have sample accurate timing (and drop midi), like what is achieved by network mode and how it keeps itself in check, but using the sound cards as the outputs.

  • How exactly would you automate the parameters if not by MIDI? Most plugins offer MIDI CC assignments for this purpose. At this point you can only automate VE Pro channel parameters when networked (the VE Pro Server Interface plugin has a set of automatable parameters that map to the first 64 channels of the connected VE Pro Server instance).

  • Karel that was just a "side note". Dropping midi was a future wish, hopefully to be replaced by OSC. Please address the main issues:

    1. Seems if you've done the work of mapping parameters then why not make it available to midi in stand alone?

    2. Is the bottom line that you really are heading towards making VEP a network product only? Do you think its not viable to develop the stand alone mode in VEP any further? How many people use it stand alone?

I really need to know where you stand here because I have to plan my setup. I'm sure other people would like to know to. Do you require people who use it stand alone to speak up so you can guage it? If so, be clear about it. Pose the question as a sticky here.

  • 1. It's a possibility that will be investigated for sure.

    2. There are no plans to drop standalone mode from VE Pro. There are some improvements planned for this side of VE Pro as well.

Any wishes and suggestions regarding VE Pro are indeed always welcome.
