  • Can string ensembles include bass?

I was using the string ensemble patch and realized the low notes end at low C, the lowest note on the cello. Will an update be issued that will take it an octave lower to include the bass?

  • Hello Frank (and all other, who could need it), here is an artfile download for the string ensembles.
For all "violin and celli combinations" double basses (KB) are now included (B0-B1).

If you need help for loading art files, I post you a "how to do".

Later on there will be a dedicated artfile download area on our userarea.

    best wishes

  • Thank you very much, Herb!

  • Hi Herb. I finally got to unzip the art. file and put it in the String Ensemble folder, but beyond that I don't know how to get it to work with Gigastudio. Can you (or anyone out there who knows how to work this) please give me (us?) a quick "how to" get this art. file to work? Thank you- Frank Macchia

  • Hi Frank,

1 - Open the GigaStudio Instrument Editor.
2 - In the editor, open the .gig file that needs to be changed.
3 - Once the instrument is loaded, from the File menu, select Load articulation file, and then select the .art file.
4 - Save the instrument, and you are ready to go!

    Good luck!
    Martin

  • Thank you Martin. I appreciate your help.

  • Well I finally got around to applying Martin's instructions on adding the .art file to the string ensemble, and saved it, but while the bass samples seem to be added it's not playing them and a message appears telling me that instruments have not been mapped into regions. So does the .art file not lay in the appropriate sound (in this case the bass)? Must I do this manually? Can someone step me through how to add the bass into the "Strings-all" patch?! Thanks!

  • I ended up with the same result. Anyone know how to correct this?

  • Sorry guys, I'm not sure what's exactly the problem is.

If you get the message with "empty regions", that's normal and doesn't have any effects, simply click OK.

I generated the .art file in loading the DVD version on my computer and made the adaption. So the art file should be 100% compatible to your versions. I will make another test tomorrow.

Maybe you should post (if you have further problems) also in our Gigastudio forum. Kevin and David are "art file masters".

    best wishes
    Herb

  • Yes Herb, I have OK'ed the dialogue about unmapped regions and then when I play the file it continues to play just down thru the celli; no basses...Can you help!?

  • same thing here Herb, nothing below the Celli

  • I posted this message also in the Giga forum

    Hello Frank,

    just did the testing:

I loaded once again the original "String_ensemble.gig" from the DVD on my harddrive.
Dowloaded the art file from the forum page (to be sure, that the file is OK)

Opened the gigfile in the editor, loaded the artfile.

Saved the instrument. The message "Warning: String_ensemble.gig contains unassigned regions" appears.
As I said, this is normal. Clicked OK
    The file saved.
(Here you could also get the message: This file is a read only file...
This appears on my OS, every file copied from a CD or DVD is automatically write protected, again I clicked OK to allow overwriting the file)

In instrument Bank 2 (Combinations a2) all Violin and Cello combinations appears as a triple combination:
    VI+VC+KB_

Loaded the file into gigastudio and it worked.

To see the new instruments in your quick sound database you have to rebuild your quick sound database.
Maybe Dave or Kevin could check it also, I can't find any mistakes.
